It looks more like two pieces of hair twisted then tied together.. Maybe take smaller sections I don't know it doesn't look like a fishtail braid to me.

It's looks good but maybe pull it out a bit to make it looser that's what I do and make add your bangs in it aswell or clip it up with a bobby pin

Just a tip to help make it easier when you're actually braiding it: it helps to have damp hair.
