Well, first you're might going to have that problem with all ammonia free hair dyes (at least your re-growth) because on my hair ammonia free dye always fades a lot, but l'oreal casting creme gloss did last a lot longer than other ones I've tried so I would take that one

If your roots come out lighter, than do your roots last. Your roots are virgin hair so it processes faster, and the heat from your head makes it process faster.

I love John Frieda's!! I find it best to use a mixing bowl and brush (just like when you go to a salon) and that really helps with coverage. I always do my roots first so that the color is on the longest. Sally's is also great for hair color but you have to mix them, which is really easy, but just have them help you choose what colors.

John Frieda also has color gloss for after you color your hair to revive it when it fades. I used L'Oreal about a year ago and it really damaged my hair for some reason, so I always go with John Frieda.
