I've been dying my hair black since 2010. And all of a sudden now I'm getting. An allergic reaction? Or a chemical burn? It's red and itchy onto scalp. It's awful. Anybody have any ideas?

Did you use a different brand of dye than you usually use??

I think you should go to a doc , and also find out what made you allergic.

Did you use a different dye? I had an allergic reaction to a dye once. My face was full of little hives, it was terrible. If it's not that bad, take an allergy pill & if it is, go to the ER asap! Don't wait around if you have an allergic reaction, those can be extremely dangerous

Sometimes brands change the ingredients slightly without telling you, thats why you should always do a patch test even if you have used the dye before :)

I've always used revlon. Maybe they changed it. I can't get into my doctor until next week. I'm just afraid my hairs going to fall out or something. I guess I could be allergic to PPD now.

Anytime you dye your hair you should always do a patch test to guarantee you don't get a bad reaction the best place to patch test hair dye is behind the ear to fix what happened though I suggest going to a doctor

Just want to mention that it is possible to develop allergies to things you haven't had issues with in the past. I developed an allergy out of the blue to a medication that I have taken on and off for years.

Always patch test (inconvenient, but better than suffering a full reaction). Take a benadryl to calm the irritation and try to be gentle on your scalp until the reaction subsides. You shouldn't lose any hair; generally a skin-only reaction doesn't go deep enough to affect hair follicles. If the irritation gets worse, or you start having other symptoms (especially difficulty breathing, shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing, or pressure on your chest) go to the ER.

Now it's made me ear swollen and weeping. My heads doing much better now. It's still a little red and itchy but not as bad.
