Yeah, kiosks are very different from actual stores. I never shop for makeup at kiosks, even if they're MAC or NARS or something like that.
I think actual store they have more expectations of their employees. they're expected to be kind & helpful. they also have the skinIQ thing where the kiosks don't.
sorry to hear about tour first experience tho. I would stick with the Sephora store definitely!

Oh wow, thats really odd. I've'e heard some terrible reviews of some Sephora employees. Some racist as well, I was quite shocked! But, I'm happy you got the colour you needed ☺️

It's like not the actual store but a smaller version. There is one in the JC Penney where I live and the people are just as nice and helpful as in the actual stores.

Unfortunately it's not store based at all it's just how good of a worker someone is and who the manager gets along with. If she/he is a gossipy person they'll hire gossipy people. There's 3 sephoras in my city and only one has 50% good workers. The rest are just there to sell and don't care if you're happy or matched properly. I've had similar experiences. On Saturday I went to but the UD pulp fiction collection since it came to Canada on aug 1st. First of all, I had gone July 16th which is what all the websites said but sephoras website was down before I had left (UD's twitter said "hitting UD.com, sephora, and shoppers drug mart July 16" which shoppers is Canadian so I figured it'd be at sephora in Canada) nobody at sephora knew what I was talking about. I had to go to this sephora since I had a store credit card for 50$ and it was only useable at that location and not online. My purchase was going to be 80$ so I wouldn't have to pay much and since I'm broke and jobless currently I don't have the extra 50$ to spend. The first girl was rude and just said "I've never heard of it so I know we don't have it, I don't even have to check" so I just said okay and left. I went back a week later and it was on the sephora website but the "find in store" thing wouldn't accept Canadian postal codes even on the Canada website. So in store I went up to the only person I could find, a girl I've seen before who is usually kind, doesn't really know her stuff or isn't very helpful but she's at least nice. I asked her if they have the collection and she didn't know about it, she checked the back and asked around if anyone knew. She told me that sometimes Canadian stores don't get told when or if it's being released to them and sometimes just receive it in a shipment a few weeks later with a LE item or collection and sometimes they ask for a collection and don't get it all. So she told me to try and come back the next week on Tuesday since Monday evening is when they get their shipments. She was sincere and apologizing and going "I hope you get it, I'd say I'd call you when we receive it but I can't do that" I said thanks for trying anyways and left. I kept looking online but the sephora website wouldn't take my postal code. I kinda gave up on going and was disappointed. I looked online and found nothing about sephora Canada but found that shoppers had a flyer saying aug 1st. So August 1st I happened to be at the mall with my sephora, and stopped by to see what was on sale, completely sure that they wouldn't have it. But I asked anyways. There was a wedding party getting their makeup done and there were like 8 extra sephora workers surrounding one bride getting her makeup done. it took 15 minutes of me standing at the UD spot before I went to the cashier and asked for help, she sent somebody over and I had never seen her before. I asked, she went and looked in the back and came back and said "yup we have it!" And didn't have it with her. I said "can I see it? I want the palette, lipstick and lip liner" and so she left and came back with the nail polish and the glitter eyeliner (the only two things I didn't want in the collection) I said "this is the opposite of what I said, I want the palette, lipstick and lip liner". She replied with "oh I thought you said you DIDNT want those" and gave me this super fake giggle that sounded like a powerpuff girl laugh. I just looked at her and said "can I have the palette, lipstick and lip liner?" So she left and came back with what I wanted. She was looking at it and said in a 100% serious voice "are you sure you want this lipstick, I don't know if you're bold enough to rock red lipstick" I happened to be wearing a bright purple lipstick that day too. I just gave her a "are you effing kidding me" look and walked away. I went to the till (30 minutes after I had entered the store) and the girl was someone I see often and knows me. She asked if I found everything okay, I told her "not really. All your coworkers are with one customer and don't give a shit about keeping customers happy." And she told me that they have 3 wedding parties booked and that her manager made staff from another location come in and that only two people from her location are here. She joked and said she's not pleased about it either since she keeps getting scolded by customers at the till for them not helping anybody. It was easily the worst experience I've ever had. Sorry this is long lol. As for yours, when I get matched unless I ask for a full face they don't blend it in, they just swipe two or three colors across my cheek/jawline and we look in the mirror and see what works best, and then blend it in a tiny bit to confirm it matches and then they remove it.

^ Alyx, I don't know if it would matter or make a difference but if a worker ever questioned what I was buying because they weren't sure if I could "rock it" or not, I would tell them that they were being extremely rude and their comment was unprofessional and uncalled for and speak to a manager. That is ridiculous and disgusting behavior. Customer service is terrible everywhere I swear. I'll go to the gas station and go through a whole transaction without a word from the cashier them I'm the one who says "bye have a nice day". Smh I don't get it but if you feel you are not being treated with respect, do not let them get away with it. Not to say it's ok for us to be mean back, there is a respectful way to do it but it needs to be done regardless.

I'm sorry you had 2 different experiences at sephora Alexis. I agree with Alyx when it comes to each store is just different based on the manager and the criteria they use to hire employees. I have had phenomenal experiences with people in retail and bad, it all just depends on how a store is ran. I've actually haven't had the best experiences at MAC or at Ulta in my area and I try not to assume that all stores are the same because again the people are different. I try to treat clients how I'd like to be treated when I'm in their shoes. That perspective is what I believe keeps me grounded.

Wow, these are crazy stories! And I thought we were the ones with the poor customer service in Italy. If you've ever been here, you'll understand. I guess I'm more easily impressed if someone even smiles because most employees aren't paid on commission so most of the time they couldn't care less. Personally I've had really great experiences at Sephora and that's a lot to say! I even went in all ugly and sweaty with a backpack and was treated like a queen. I guess every single person is different and everyone can have a bad day...just try not to show it, right? :) I just try smiling and the best thing I learned to do is show your interest in buying if they're typically unhelpful. Also, I've had some girls at sephora that just sounded bored and didn't putuch effort in helping me...and I went to another girl - she was the nicest ever!

I've had good and bad myself at sephora. Went there one day to get some of the lock it foundation. They were out of the shade I had wanted and the sales girl just kind of shrugged and said there wasn't anything she could do. Then went back the next day, different girl helped me find another product I needed. It's just like any store anywhere, it depends on the employees and sometimes you run in with a bad one :(
