Touch up chipped polish?

I know I shouldn't but I can't keep myself from using my nails to scrape and pry things, so the polish on my right (dominant) hand is always chipped after a day or two. Nothing major, but it bothers me that the left looks brand new and the right doesn't. Without repolishing the nail entirely, do you have any tips for quickly touching up the chips? When I try it tends to get super lumpy and looks way worse than the original chips.

Buff it down so its smooth and then do a coat. Usually comes out smooth :)
