Hey everyone. my hair is a pretty straight brown color and I am not wanting to bleach it. I only want to dye the ends. I was thinking of dying the ends using manic panic. I don't want a very bright color, something not so distracting. what is your experience? How long did it take to fade and how often did you wash? What color hair did you start out with? Please help.

It depends on the colour, for sure. I don't think it would show up super bright, but you would see a fair amount of colour, but it would be pretty dark. I love your shirt, where did you get it?

Okay, that's awesome. that's exactly what I'm looking for, @Zoey. also, I got it Earthbound :) there's some writing under the octopus but I can't remember what it says atm!

@Alexis, that's what I thought, maybe even quicker because I wash daily? Also do you think it would fade well or to an ugly color? I'm doing it to my ends so if it goes wrong I can cut. :)

My hair is similar to your color, and at the time was virgin hair, and a semi-permanant purple washed out within days (one or two washes, 3 tops). I redid it a few weeks later, bleaching it first, and it still washed out in a month or two (in the meantime, it went from bright cool-ass purple, to a color we named "blurple" (blue-violet), and stayed at a light purple / GRAY for a good 2 or 3 weeks, until it washed out forever, and I was left with neat bleach spots I just let grow out).
Your hair sounds like what mine was, and I'd say it's a waste of money, especially if you don't bleach it first (at least my purple on my virgin hair was not very prevalent). However, that's only my personal experience and advice. Do your thing! You're gorgeous, I bet you could pull any look off anyways (;

It won't be bright, but you'll be able to see it. I used a purple manic panic on my black hair before & it mainly gave me a really pretty purple tint. it also lasted for awhile, like a month or so. I heard it'll last longer the longer you leave it in your hair.

Oh & it also didn't fade into an ugly color or anything like that.

@Alexis, okay, thank you so much! @Jessica, actually that's perfect! I will be looking for a job soon so the fact that it would be gone so quickly is WONDERFUL. Thank you so much!

@Kat, that is also very helpful. how long did you leave it on your hair?

I think I left it for a couple hours. like 2-3. sorry I don't know exactly how long, I did it a few years ago lol.

When I did it with unbleached hair and red manic panic it lasted for about a 3-4 weeks for me. I left it on for around 3 hours and wash my hair every other day or so. Oh and if you use lukewarm water and sulfate free shampoo it will not fade as quickly vs hot water and regular shampoo.

Oh and I started out with medium brown hair that had coppery red undertones in the sunlight for my natural hair color.
