This may be a stupid question but I saw a lot of people arguing over whether or not makeup can age you. Many people said it doesn't but I always thought it could. So I'd like your opinions on the subject please.

When I wear make up all of my moms friends think I look a lot older so most decently if you wear it correctly.

I think it can go both ways, depending on how you wear it.

I've heard it can. But I don't think it's true I know you can wrinkles from not moisturizing enough or not wearing sunscreen. So I think if you do those things makeup should have no effect on your skin. Also I'm sure it has a lot to do with genetics if your parents age fast they might pass that Gene down to you.

Wait are you asking "does makeup make you look older"??

It makes me look older but it can make people look younger, I don't know for sure about if it makes you get wrinkles or stuff like that.

I thought she was talking about it actually aging your skin too, Erin. if that's what you're asking, I've heard it can if you don't have a proper skincare routine. you have to make sure you always wash it off before bed!

It could go both ways.

That would depend entirely on what your make up contains. Just like skin care, some products are not quite 'skin friendly'. A prime and popular example would fragrance in make up. Fragrance not only irritates the skin but it breaks down collagen, something your body will eventually stop producing.. so it can do a quite good job at helping speed that up and start an early aging process.

As far as ingredients as Kitty mentioned...yes. I've recently been encountering that with lipstick...MAC in particular. Its been drying out my lips something fierce even if I applied a lip balm and lip primer. Just noticed it has been seriously accelerating the aging process (fine lines galore). As far as being aging in appearance...yes. If one is applying far too much product...caked up foundation and not properly blending eye looks...it will make a person appear aged.

I mean aging your face as in wrinkles.

As far as I know, makeup itself doesn't give you wrinkles. It's things like being rough with your skin and not removing it properly ☺️

@Alice...gotcha. If you have a great skincare routine down then you're fine. And keeping your exposure to irritating ingredients such as fragrance to a minimum then you'll be fine. Really can't avoid what is bound to happen as you get older but you can certainly slow down the process and intensity by following a decent regimen. Not wearing sun protection though will age you quicker than cosmetics ever will.

I suggest that if you are concerned, invest in a high quality bb cream, they actually improve your skin rather than age it.

I agree with Shelley... Sunscreen all the way. I keep a strict skin care routine so that I can be lenient when it comes to cosmetics. Luckily my foundation is free of irritants and fragrance but I do occassionally come across blushes that are heavily scented.

Does fragrance problem applies to skincare products as well? Because some of my products are heavily scented, like Korres Wild Rose Brightening Night cream, Ole Henriksen Vitamin C serum and moisturizer 😨😰

Make up can make our face look more ages if we don't wash one's face be clean. In the other hand, make up can cover up the wrinkle.

Fragrances has it benefits. Without it some our products would not be appeasing to the nose and we wouldn't want to use it on our face so chemists add it to the mix to make it more pleasing to the senses. Some are far safer than others in regards to possible irritation. When looking at skincare products for example some brands are able to utilize the scent of the combined ingredients without having to add anything. While some have to add a synthetic fragrance to make it more pleasing. Korres Wild Rose Brightening Night Cream ( I actually tried that out when it first came out) and if my memory is correct they just utilized more rose oil to make make it more fragrant. I don't know if they used a synthetic oil or if its the actual scent because by ounce rose oil is not cheap...I forgot how many pounds of roses it takes just to make once ounce of rose oil. Some natural fragrances can be irritating for some while synthetic for some can cause zero issues. Its all in what your skin can tolerate. If it is irritated it will result in dry skin skin, acne in some cases and fine lines. I could go on and on about it...but thats the jest of it. :)
