I'm considering letting my dark roots grow, my highlighted blonde hair(obviously it's got multiple streaks of blonde in there), stand out a lot and are too high maintenance to keep up with.
Also continuous dying means that my hair is like straw so I can't heat it.
My parents have suggested going a hazel brown, a shade lighter than my natural colour, obviously if I do this I'll have to let my roots grow. What do you guys think?

Just do the color closet to your roots...

Switch back to brown until your hair is healthy again!
