I really want to do a fresh looking smokey eye. However, whenever I do one it looks like I put dirt in the corner of my eye and looks so messy. Is there any tips you can give me? I think I do know where the product (s) should go. Also if you have any YouTube channels that are useful, let me know to!

Hi Yael!! I found that in learning a smokey eye I did much better by keeping the darker color to the outside of my eye, and keeping a lighter color towards the inside. I guess it's more if an ombré eye, but it was so much easier to swallow at first, if you know what I mean! This is a bad picture, but try keeping a dark grey or black to the outer third, then a light grey, then a lighter silver? Does that make sense? Keep your tear duct light, and just blend up and out. Use a warm tan or your bronzer to blend the outer edges. It warms up the edges so you look like you have a smokey eye- not a black eye!😉 Hope this helped?

Just to clarify, what Erica posted is in fact, a gradient eye. A true smokey eye starts with the darkest shade all over the lid, then slowly blends upward into basically nothing. I like to use three shades, at the suggestion of Jackie, but basically what I do is to apply eyeliner all over my lid and smudge it, then I like to apply a shade close to my skintone under my brow bone, then I apply a medium toned grey or brown (I find a matte shade works best for this) and blend it into your crease and up a little bit towards your brow. Then, I'll take my darkest shade (usually black) and apply it onto the lid, over the eyeliner and blend into my crease. Then, I usually take a step back from my mirror, and look really hard at my eyes to determine if they've been blended enough. If they have, great, if they haven't, go back in with your blending brush. The goal here is a seamless blend between colors, to the point where you have a hard time finding where one shade ends and the other begins =) Hope this helps just a touch.

Yes! Lol, thanks Hannah! I said Ombré and my brain cramped trying to remember gradient- what a spazz!😂 Yes, three shades I agree too! I also think practicing before showering is great, do a true smokey eye on one, a gradient on the other. Snap a few pics before you shower and wash it all off. That way no pressure and you practice and see what you like! You don't ever have to take the dark color all the way into your tear duct if you don't like it either.😁 Thanks Hannah, looks like I shouldn't try talking today, lol!😜

Lol, Erica, don't say that! Your advice is just as good as mine, trust me =)

Also, a side suggestion would be to do your eye makeup before your face makeup. That way if you make a mistake you can clean it up with a q-tip or makeup wipe without having to redo your face makeup too. I use this technique all the time and it has pretty much become my norm.
