I want my whole face to be made over especially contouring then I can buy some of the products. I want a makeup lesson. I have fair skin. I was thinking of going to Macy's or Nordstrom this weekend. Just wondering what makeup counter you guys recommend?

What type of skin do you have and what styles/colors are you drawn to? Also...what price range works for you?

I'd try sephora! They sometimes have counters or mini-stores inside JCPenny as well as their stand-alone stores. They'll have the greatest range of products and their beauty advisors are usually super friendly and knowledgable about products. I know Macy's usually has a MAC counter, but the service you get at MAC is notoriously unpredictable. Wherever you go, I'd suggest asking for samples of products so you can try them out on different lighting and make sure the color fits you.

Lancôme and clinique has great training for a department store counter. For something like a contour you could also try a Mac counter

Emphasize that you want a lesson, they will suggest easy to use products and fully explain their technique

Try Sephora they taught me how to contour and recommended different products for my skintone.

If you go to Sephora for a full face, it's usually by appointment with a 50 dollar minimum purchase of product, which is honestly not a lot if you're buying like a foundation and highlighter and contouring powder. It easily adds up to that amount. They lavish over you there, I would definitely check it out!

But they do small tutorials there like how to contour, do a smoky eye, lips, etc.for free and through walk ins. :)

I have only had a Sephora employee do proper application of concealer or foundation on me ONCE. They often suggest improper colors for a skin match. It's frustrating. Hopefully others have had better experiences. The girls used to be very knowledgeable about products, but this past year...friendly, but lacking in skincare needs with regard to my complexion as a canvas. :(

Awh I'm sorry that has happened to you! Do they match you off the top of their head or what do they do?

Don't go to sephora! go to like Estee Lauder or Lancome they are much more professional :-) being a professional makeup artist, sephoras "artists" gross me out they are not sanitary, or professional in anyway.

^ I think bad customer service / improperly trained employees is especially a problem this time of year, when a lot of potentially less-qualified and less-trained seasonal employees are working.
