So I've been tempted to buy Latisse eyelash serum to help my eyelashes grow longer. But, just the price of it sort off makes me wonder if it's worth it.
I was also wondering if prenatals have worked for you guys in regards to hair and nail growth.

Lastisse is the only thing that really works to grow out your lashes, at least in my knowledge. but I would't recommend taking prenatals if you aren't pregnant, as too much vitamin can cause severe health problems.

I use Biotin for my hair and nails. Idk, people say it's bad to take it if you don't need it but (sorry if this is TMI) you excrete most of the vitamin anyways when you go to the bathroom, so your chances of getting sick with it are actually not that high. But always talk to your doctor first, of course. I'm certainly not one. Lots of multivitamins contain biotin, or you can get it on its own. As a water-soluble vitamin, it's pretty hard for it to build up too much in your body. Also check how much biotin is in the pill, as you ONLY want the Recommended Daily Allowance (RDA) as set out by the FDA. You'll pass most of it, but you don't want to take something that's got 10x the RDA, that's when it starts getting harmful.
Check around the Internet, WebMD has some info, and your doctor can answer most of your questions quickly.

I am a nursing major and do know the gimmicks or the whole vitamin toxicity and excretion if it is not required in the body. I was just wondering about experiences and such :) but thank you Sarah for the info :)

Ok! Well Biotin has been really great for me, I definitely recommend it if you've been having any hair or nail growth issues!

Nothing can grow lashes except latisse. Nothing else is proven.
DO NOT take any prenatal or any other vitamins without going to the doctor and getting a blood test to see what you're low on. Taking biotin or any pills without taking a blood test to see if your deficient is incredibly dangerous. If you're on even a semi healthy diet you're most likely getting enough biotin from your food. As someone who has overdosed on biotin when I was younger, please do not just go out and take pills. Just because they're sold in stores does not mean you should take them without consulting a doctor. Taking any vitamins, especially biotin (hair, skin, nails) can lead to very bad side effects that defeat the point of taking them fit nice hair like hair loss, hair dryness, nail weakness, skin issues like permanent breakouts, dehydration etc, not to mention the lethal ones like kidney failure, liver failure, heart palpitations and more. Read this thread for even more reasons why you should NOT take biotin or any other pills just because someone on the Internet said it's okay.

^With all due respect Alyx, there are plenty of factual studies to show Biotin is fine except in EXTRAORDINARILY large doses. I'm not sure how much you must have taken when you were younger, but unless you took half a bottle of the pills, I can't imagine how it would harm you. At the end of the day, it's Christina's choice. No one on here is a doctor (though my nurse sister takes them and has more than once recommended them) and everything anyone can post is hearsay or conjecture based on limited research and experience. Obviously to be as safe as possible, Christina should consult her doctor. But water-soluble vitamins like Biotin are some of the safest supplements you can take. I highly doubt this reaction would be coming out if she had asked about a daily multivitamin with Biotin in it, which is an option.

If you read the last thread I posted, it talks about a lot of that. A multivitamin usually has about 2% of the amount of biotin that the hairinfinity and basic biotin pills have. In the thread Emily explained (and posted proven medical posts, by actual doctors) biotin (and any vitamin) can be harmful in any dose, depending in your body and how it reacts. For me, when I was younger I took a multivitamin, for iron deficiency, that happened to have biotin in it, and I was overdosing on biotin that week. Most people get plenty more vitamins then they need just by basic food intake. When taking vitamins you are messing with your body's vitamin balance. Increasing one vitamin van decrease another. And some people pee out the excess, and some people's body obsorb it and overdose on it.
So please. Just get a blood test done before taking ANY pills.

I'm a nutrition major and I'm not going to say I'm 100% right since I haven't finished my education but vitamin supplements usually aren't recommended unless you consistently are not getting a healthy dose. That being said, biotin does not have a recommended upper level or toxicity level. I personally take biotin knowing that it doesn't have a toxicity level, and I spoke to my doctor who said it would be fine since biotin is water-soluble and any excess will be excreted from the body. At the end of the day it'a a personal choice, don't listen to any of us saying you should or should not, but definitely tell your doctor.

To speak to the eyelash serums, the active ingredient in Latisse (generic is Bimatoprost) that make the lashes grow is a prostoglandin, an FDA regulated hormone derivative. It was also used in Jan Marini's original product and that's why the FDA took hers off the market. Anyway, there are several products (Rapidlash, Revitalash) on the market now that have synthetic, proprietary prostoglandins in their serums and those should also work to grow lashes. I've used them and they work on me, making a noticeable difference. The result is probably not as dramatic as with Latisse, but the cost is much less.
Just my two cents.
