You could putting a lightweight mousse in your hair before you curl it. That might help.

Do you pin the curls up after you curl them? That can help as well. Also curl your hair on 2nd or 3rd day hair. Curls are harder to hold if you try it on freshly cleaned hair.

You could also twist the curl around with your hand the way you curled it to make it more defined.

My hair is kind of like that- have you tried setting it over night with rollers or something?

You really need to try hot rollers and leave them in your hair don't go on either end of the spectrum stay with hot rollers and leave them in even after they cool down it will really train your straight hair to stay curled for much longer.

Try curling it in a more natural way. For example, putting your hair into a bun at night or two buns on the top of the head and hairspray them. This will also take the frizz out :)
