I've been into makeup for years now but the whole contouring and highlighting thing is newer to me. I've watched countless Youtube videos on how to nail this technique, but I'm starting to see it's an acquired skill! I think the look turned out okay until I took a picture. Holy guacamole, where did you come from Casper?! I think it's definitely the HD powder that I used. I applied it using a big fluffy brush and made sure there wasn't a crap ton on there, but when that flash went off, wowsers! Pale city! First off, how does my contouring look on the pic without the flash? :) And secondly, what the heck is up with this HD powder? If it shows up super white or pale in pictures, what's the point in wearing it? What's all the hype about? Luckily, I only paid $6 for it! :)

Thank you! I used a concealer by Hard Candy (Walmart) called Glamouflage in Light and a light shimmer powder highlighter by Hard Candy in Tiki.

Looks good Jill!! I hate the white flash I get too in pics. I believe the HD powder is more for video use than an actual pic. Maybe one of the pros on here could elaborate more. But overall nice job!! :)

The first thing I would try is using a translucent powder that is tinted with a bit of color. Some come with a yellow tint (itCosmetics) some come with a salmon tint, and check out Ben Nye's whole line of setting powders in different shades. I'm sure there are lines other than Ben Nue that come in a range of tints. You may want to look for a product that specifically states "setting powder" rather than translucent or invisible powder.
Also, you could do your HAC as you did (which seems to look great) and very lightly set with a regular face pressed powder. I know some people say that it can give you cake face but if you use a sheer pressed powder and keep it light it may work. After seeing the difference in the pics you just posted, I totally get why I've been looking so pale in my pics lately. And I'm a pro MUA, so hey, we all have stuff to learn! I'll be trying different things too, I'll start with what I just listed above and I'll check with my academy instructor to see what she says. I just can't imagine not setting your face with something. I'll let you know if I come up with something and you let me know too! Girl power! Haha! 👍😃

Wow Jacqueline that was a great explanation and you helped to give me pointers too!! So helpful! I think many people on here will benefit from your explanation and breakdown of application. Thanks!

Jackie pretty much explained it well done. It's great to see threads with great feed back from all :)

Yes, thank you for such a detailed explanation! Should I maybe add my normal foundation top the areas in between the highlight abs contour colors to help blend the colors more smoothly? I'll look into getting a kabuki brush for the HD powder. Thank you Kathryn for your tips too. I will put all of these to use!

I learned something too! I was using a fluffy brush for my powder and now I know to blend it better with a kubuki brush.

@Jacqueline what would you suggest as a setting powder? I've tried the products I mentioned in my earlier comments. I just have to set my foundation/concealer with something. What do you recommend that won't give that white face in pics?

I have used powder contouring, and very lightly compared to what I've seen other folks use! But I think it does the job and contours what and where I like so I'm happy. I have use Aesthetica powders. They also have great tutorials on their website.

Much better! I ditched the HD powder and used the powder I made out of arrowroot starch, cocoa, cinnamon Etc... Not near as white as the HD powder! Don't mind my hair! I just took it out of a towel!
