So my skin has always been "okay" I would get a pimple here and there but nothing to severe so I never had a skincare routine I would just use a cleanser and moisturize. I am 23 and I just feel that my skin is at its worst I have big clogged pores on my nose and chin and I have been breaking out pretty badly on my forehead and chin sometimes I will get a pimple on a cheek but mostly its my forehead and chin. my skin feels oily but I also have dry patches. I'm trying to get a skincare routine down but its just so overwhelming with all these products that I don't know where to start. HELP please :-)

Girl I feel you - I never washed my face or anything and was fine until my last year of college, then everything went crazy! My skin tends to be dry so I can't make a ton of specific product recommendations, but I'd advise starting with a gentle cleanser (too harsh will stop your face of all oil and make things worse in the long run). I use Boscia clear complexion gel, but I've heard really good things about cetaphil. Toners are optional, some people love them (I personally don't use one), 100% witch hazel (no alcohol) is a good one. Then a good moisturizer. You'll also want an exfoliant to remove dead skin cells so they can't contribute to blockages. I like Konjac sponges, a manual exfoliating sponge, but there are also chemical exfoliants and exfoliating scrubs and cleansers (just don't use one with little plastic beads, they're terrible for the environment). You may also want a mask and a spot treatment. Tea tree oil (diluted) makes a great spot treatment. Clay masks are good for absorbing excess oil, but can be drying if used too frequently. Queen Helene mint julep mask is a popular one. The biggest thing is adding elements to your routine slowly so you can pinpoint what's helping and what's not. Products can take a while to have an effect, but the "purging" phase is hotly debated by dermatologists, and I'm of the mindset that if something is making your skin worse for weeks on end, you could find something better.

Wow sorry for the novel! Some other tips: drinking lots of water, eating lots of fruits and veggies and avoiding dairy and soy (both are super high in hormones) can help skin from the inside out. Hormonal BC can be a help or a culprit - different people react differently, so if you're on one (especially if you recently started one) it can be worthwhile to talk to your doctor about it.

Jack b you have helped a lot I actualy use cetaphil moisturizer and I really like it. I have tea tree oil I bought it for something else but I never knew I could use it on my face thank you for your response I now know what to look for a good cleanser, an exfoliant and mask I'm going to try the queen helene mint julep mask.

Jacqlyn I have no insurance I would love to see a dermatologists but I have no idea how much it would cost. jack b for my bc I'm on implanon I got it two years ago so honestly I can't remember if its hormonal but I'm going to google it and find out

Yes jacqlyn I'm going to make an appointment with my doctor because the bc I'm using is hormonal so I don't know if that might be what its causing it. its just different then the occasional pimples I would get. these are like in little clusters and always on my forhead and chin and there the kind that hurt badly

I think you should deal with the clogged pores problem first, & for that I suggest using the origins clear improvements charcoal mask, it works as a magnet to suck out all the gunk out of your pores, secondly with the dry patches & oiliness ^ jacqlyn up here suggests using jojoba oil which I think would be great to get rid of the dryness& she says it mimics the natural skins sebum which will cause your skin to produce less oil... Then I would suggest using the zero oil also from origins which will help control the oiliness

I also suggest looking into shesheido, they have an amazing line for oily, combination skin

I have dry skin & just remember to apply your skin products in this order:
Serums
Treatments
Moisturizer
Sunscreen
Yes, I know it's freezing outside, but your skin can still get damaged from the suns rays. & here are a few tips:
1.) Remove ALL your makeup. I personally don't use makeup remover wipes because they have a lot of chemicals in them which are really bad for the skin.
2.) give your skin time to breathe. I always have at least one day a week where I don't wear any makeup & I have a little "spa" day to keep my skin healthy (;
3.) use products for your skin type. If you have dry skin, don't get products for oily skin. It's that simple!
4.) don't apply to many skin products because they can actually end up making your skin worse.
There's a lot more & I recommend looking on google or YouTube for more.

Sounds like you have the same type of skin I do.. I'm combination. I switch btwn purpose (I get mine at cvs for like $3?) and Mario bedescu ( I get it at Ulta). I switch btwn those two depending on how my skin is acting and I also have a vibrating cleansing brush from Mary Kay that seriously makes ALL the difference. Obv doesn't have to be MK but I definitely recommend some sort of brush like that

Ulta has a cosmetologist, that does face work. think it can be as little as $25.depending on what you have done. I went and enjoyed having her clean my pores out!

A great mask to try for getting all the gunk out is a bentonite clay mask. All you do is mix it with a little water or apple cider vinegar and voila, instant detox! You can also add the powder out of a charcoal tablet to help with blackheads. I just make sure I always have face wipes on hand to take my makeup off every night and also wash my face with good ol' Dove bar soap. It has moisturizer in it so it doesn't dry your face out. You can also give African black soap a try. I like it but I have to watch how much I use it because it can be drying. I get mine from Coastal Scents. The best thing is that the proceeds go to help women in need in Guana :)

I use the Cetaphil facial wash which does wonders for keeping a good ph balance on my face. I would also recommend doing a honey mask twice a week before you go to bed. Also if you have oily skin sleep with your hair out of your face. :)

Clearogen. Its a bit pricey. You can find it on Amazon. It worked wonders on my skin. It balances PH, poromotes healing, and also targets the root cause of ance; chemical imbalances in your skin. It has very helpful diagrams in the box explaining how their product works. Its a really great product. You just have to get a moisterizer along with it.
