My personal preference is real technique for the face. Eye brushes, I have found that you get what you pay for. I use Mac, they're not as expensive as some of the higher end brushes, and they're still going strong after a few years. I tried a variety of drugstore brushes for the eyes before I bit the bullet and got Mac brushes, there just wasn't any comparison for me.

In the same price range as the ELF studio are Up and Up (Target house brand) and I've found these to actually be pretty decent. They are dirt cheap ($2 a brush, even for face brushes) so you could pick one up and try it. I second Kashuk Tools (the black handled ones) about $10-20 per brush. These are my preferred brushes. I have a hard time not buying when whenever I go to Target. IThere are a load of bdellium and Zoeva brushes I want to try but I am a bit wary of ordering brushes online. I really like to be able to see and touch the brush in person. I have a couple of elf studio brushes and they are OK too. And some eco tools are decent, others are rubbish.

I like the ELF brushes for the money. They are very reasonable and I find I like them as much as other costly ones. But yes buy them individually rather than a kit or set...
