Mayonnaise, when used like shampoo, can make your hair silky and smooth. Is this true? If it is, is it healthy?

Mayonnaise is said to be very conditioning but it's not worth the mess and stink. I tried this once years ago. My hair was to my butt. It was a NIGHTMARE to rinse out. I think a deep conditioner would be much better to use.

That's another thing; it left my hair super greasy. I had to wash it several times to get the stink and oil out. I do not recommend using mayonnaise in your hair. Lol

Use coconut oil. I've gotten only positive results. And that's as a deep conditioner, not shampoo. I think you're confused on that point..

what kind of coconut oil?

i meant cold pressed extra virgin coconut oil, that you buy in the grocery store. you can find it usually in the organic or health food section. i got mine at giant, it's in any grocery store, just make sure you get cold pressed and extra virgin organic. at room temp it's solid but it melts easily in your hands. i put some in a bowl and microwave it for 45 seconds, then saturate my hair with it, rubbing into my scalp, and wrap my head with saran wrap, cover with a shower cap, and leave it in for at least 2 hours. some people say you have to leave it overnight for it to make a difference, but i don't think that's true, and i know it isn't true for me. i get great results, my hair is so soft and shiny and it looks amazing for DAYS afterwards. the first time i did it, i went out to dinner 2 nights later with my girlfriends, and they were all saying they'd never seen my hair look as good as it did then! i had not washed again since the night i did the first treatment, didn't use dry shampoo, nothing. usually around that time i need some dry shampoo because i start to get a little dirty looking, but it didnt. i can't recommend coconut oil enough!

I actually put mayonnaise and conditioner and some argan oil in dry hair at night, then sleep with a plastic cap on, and when I wash my hair in the morning, my hair is way shiny and soft. (I use conditioner with the mayonnaise because it covers up the smell which grosses me out lol. It was a little weird for me at first to put mayonnaise in my hair, but after doing it like once a week, I was used to it.) :)

Coconut oil and olive oil have worked well for me but I have to wash twice. The mayo isn't worth it! A deep conditioning mask is so much better. One I would recommend that is drugstore is Aussie 3 minute miracle, it leaves my hair SO smooth. Just a recommendation, but if you get to try it out, you won't regret it. Apple cider vinegar also has worked great for me and green tea.

It can, but use too much and it is greasy for a long time. I did this in middle school. It ended badly. Just use an oil product such as Moroccan oil, macadamia oil, or Aegean oil.

Wait wait wait.. Just re read your post... Don't use it as shampoo. It's not going to clean your hair

I didn't mean to put shampoo. I meant it as something that makes it silky smooth .

It's the egg yolk and oil in mayo that is supposed soften and add shine to your hair. I used to wash my hair with eggs (in cold water of course). You split them and use the white as a shampoo and the yolk as a conditioner (I'd add a tsp of honey to the yolks too). Rinse with apple cider vinegar, I'd still do it but eggs are so expensive now where I live. Once a month you can do an oil treatment usually I do olive oil with honey, there's loads of recipes out there though.

I made up a mixture of eggs, extra virgin olive oil, and a little beer. I leave it in anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of hours and omg my hair looks fabulous!

not as a shampoo...No No No....but if u mix some with olive or vegtable oil and massage it into your hair and let it sit for about 10 maybe 15 minutes (depends on hair thickness..) then rinse with COLD. water and then follow with ur usual shampoo conditioning in the shower it will make your hair super soft and shiny as heck. you can use eggs also raw but it is very very important that if u use eggs u rinse with cold water or it will cook into your hair.
