I started using Retin-A a week ago, I try to avoid the upper lip area and the side of my mouth because I get dry patches. Today I waxed my upper lip area and I end up lifting a bit of my skin and now I have two red, irritated spots. I'm taking proper care for the area. I know everybody have different skin, but if someone had the same experience I will like to know I long it will take to heal and if it left a scar.

I looked pretty bad the day after the wax, that's when it started to scab. What I did was I went back to the salon that did the wax and they covered it with concealer for me and did my eye makeup kinda as a distraction to the skin, or rather lack of, below my eyebrows.

If I remember this correctly, it looked bad on the day right after the wax, and gets less and less noticeable, I think it went away after around 4 days, no scars or marks

How long it take to heal?

Be prepared for the burn to turn dark and start flaking. Nothing crazy though, like a dark sunburn.

Hii Ciorana! I'm an Esthetician and I'm happy to help!:) Retin-A or Tretinoin Gel is the primary cause for your skin lift. Retin-A is a powerful prescription and I highly recommend consulting with your dermatologist before pursuing anymore waxing on any part of the body. Retin-A is a great product but it comes with side effects and risks, your chances of Sun Burns, Skin Lifts and Skin Infections are going to more likely to occur when using this product. If you still really want to wax while still using Retin-A then here are some helpful tips to prevent the skin lifts.
-Wait 24-48 hours after using Retin-A to wax.
-Oil and blot the skin before waxing to make sure the skin isn't dry. (Retin-A causes severely dry skin so this is an important step!)
-Make sure the was isn't too Hot!
- Don't Rub the Wax Strip after applying it! This only creates friction and more heat and WILL cause skin lifts. Instead apply firm pressure against the paper before ripping it off.
-be sure when removing the wax strip that your skin is pulled tight and your hand stays as close to your skin as possible while removing it (almost like your going to punch your self)
-be sure to follow up with proper post op care!
-wait 24hrs after waxing to apply Retin-A gel!
This applies to all areas of the skn (head to toe) Retin-A will effect your entire body. Remeber to consult your dermatologist before proceeding with more waxing!
I love Skin!❤

How much is threading usually? I'm my state/city waxing is only $10.

I live in Toronto , most waxing salons charge about $15-30 (depending on where you go of course) for eyebrows and probably another $10 for upper lip. Threading on the other hand is around $12 for eyebrow and upper lip, I usually go to those Indian salons that do threading in the ethnic part of downtown so they're much cheaper compared to waxing salons

I think threading is super popular in the places that those people running the "ethnic" salons came from, so they're threading is equally good, if not better than the more upscale salons that now offer threading
