My old straightener used to do this too. Now that I have my Brilliance New York straightener it doesn't do that anymore. I'm following this, I'm curious to see what it is. Maybe it's product buildup? Do you use products before straightening your hair?

Most likely product build up or dirt from your hair. I just wipe mine off with a paper towel in some alcohol or witch hazel.

Its product bulid up definitely, Straighteners burn the heat protectants causing this residue. With all due respect, human hair cannot gather that much dirt because of hygiene obligations.

You shouldn't be worried…It just means you probably need a new straightener. That happens when you've had a straightener for a long time and it's just worn out.

Product build up, clean it with a small dry towel when it is warm so it is easier to come off than if the straightener was off.
