"Fall Ball" Dress Help!

We have a dance coming up called the "Fall Ball" and it suppose to sort of take the place of our homecoming dance. Anyways, it's November 1st (as far as I know it's a semi-formal) and I'm having trouble finding a dress. I'm looking for a classy kind of dress with possibly a deep, rich color. I was looking at something like the picture below (it's from Windsor) but I'm so pale it would wash me out. Any online store suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Forever 21, modcloth, jcpenneys, Macy's, or Sears might have something similar in different colors.
