When I had red hair and used loreal hi color I'd do my roots with a 30 and then I'd just use a red veggie dye (manic panic, directions etc) all over and use that to refresh. If you use the loreal hi color on already dyed hair your hair will be much brighter than your roots, and it'll be lots damaging if you do it every month. Veggie dyes are basically pigment and conditioner so its not damaging and is super vibrant :)

Is ion color brilliance a good brand?

I don't really like ion, as it's not conditioning and it stained my hair. My personal favorite is special effects, but it'll depend on your hair what is the best. Veggie dye is kinda like foundation, it's not one kind fits all and some work better and last longer for some people than others. But manic panic, punky colors, special effects, and directions are all conditioning and nice pigmented dyes :)

Ion isn't vegan at all, its pigment is from insects. It also has no conditioning agents in it, and is more damaging than veggie dyes since veggie dyes have no active chemicals in it and ion does, to try and push color further into the hair (causing it to likely stain so you wouldn't be able to go blonde or ash toned without cutting it off). My recommendation as someone who uses veggie dyes on a regular basis, is to stick to the ones I've mentioned. Use ion if you want, but I truly do not recommend it.

Almost all the pigment in ion are made from insects, so I'm not sure where you got vegan from. But like I said, the way ion is designed (the ingredients that they've chosen) it's meant to basically push the pigment as far into your hair as possible, so the chances of it staining are much higher (manic panic or any veggie dye basically coats the hair and usually barely even penetrates it unless the hair is very pourus) so staining only happens if you bleach it and physically push it into your hair shaft. And there's zero beneficial ingredients for conditioning hair, so it's not actually conditioning or improving your hair. Unlike a veggie dye which is full of conditioning agents. I'm glad you didn't have any staining, but the few times I've used ion on myself and others, it stained and left a permanent tint to the hair. I've been dying my hair bright colors for almost 8 years now, I've been every color of the rainbow and used several brands, and ion was the only one that ever stained my hair and took forever to get back to blonde.

How does something suck in terms of "vegan-ism"? It's weird that manic panic and such made your hair dry. They are basically a deep conditioner with pigment. And I don't know why you're getting offensive, I was just correcting a few misinformed pieces in your facts (like it being vegan) so that you didn't go around saying it now and being wrong. I'd hate to be a vegan and hear its vegan, buy it and end up having to take it back or throw it away because it's not at all vegan. You know? I never said you were in the wrong, I just wanted to tell you so you knew. And I was just giving my opinion, that ion is sucky compared to the ones I've mentioned.
