So I want to get my bellybutton pierced, but does it hurt? how do you clean it? also what type of metal should the bellybutton ring be, because I tend to be very sensitive. thanks for your help in advance. :)

I got mine pierced in July, with a simple stainless steel bar. It personally didn't hurt at all, just a slight pinch and you're done. My piercer told me to clean my hole with just original Dial Soap (the orange type) and mine has been great! I highly recommend it! :)

Surgical steel is the best for any body piercing

I agree with Alexis. I'm pretty sure it was Bactine spray which is exactly what my piercer advised me to use.

@Harlyn..any reason why you advise against using soap? My piercer told me the exact same thing as Shelby's in regards to using Gold Dial antibacterial soap for cleansing...

If you have fat on your tummy it won't hurt as much as if you are real lean - but be careful you can't remove it for 6 months otherwise it could get infected and migrate out - that's what happened to mine and now it's left a nasty scar for life.

I had mine done a few years ago and it hurt really bad but I'm pretty lean which could be why like Diana mentioned. I basically had tears. Lol. I used Claire's ear solution to clean mine (recommended by my piercer) I've always used surgical steel and have had no problems. my ears are pretty sensitive to other metals but surgical steel has never bothered me, its all I've ever gotten since I know it doesn't bother me.

I got mine about the years ago, I barely felt it. I did soaks of saltwater and washed with anti bacterial soft soap, stainless steel barbell was used.

You can definitely over complicate cleaning piercings. I literally just used boiled water and salt (about a teaspoon of salt). You'll need to let it cool slightly though! Just use it on a cotton bud/q-tip to clean it twice a day and you'll be fine. Either titanium or surgical steel works fine, I personally would go for surgical steel though!
