I personally don't like Ulta very much in general. I've never had this particular problem before though. My issue is that every time I got to the one near me I get attitude from the girls there and the one time I bothered to ask for help/an opinion on a different product I could try I was handed a product I didn't want, not shown any to compare, and then brushed off. It was very impersonal and rude. I also just never seem to come across any good deals from them. All I've ever seen or gotten was a $5 off coupon which I never used because I avoided going there because of the rudeness I always encounter. We have a Sephora inside JCPenney now so I go there even though sometimes their stock is limited. I only ever hit up Ulta when I'm hard up for something, usually my philosophy face products.
So overall I just don't care for Ulta. I haven't been to others in different locations though so it could just be the one here, but so far I'm not impressed.

yeah same here caitlin, we dont have a sephora store just a sehora in jcpenny here and we JUST Got an Ulta...i havent had that many issues with them they did give me a 15 dllar gift card when i complained but as far as rudeness goes they really need to stop being so stuck up (there are nice people there though if you look)

I really dread going there. They've never been open and obviously rude to me, its more of a snide, subtle rudeness, but regardless I don't want to deal with it and shouldn't have to. But I know this is a widespread problem throughout any of the stores that sell makeup. I wish that these places would do employee evaluations that way some of the girls with these crappy attitudes would get weeded out. It really makes the business look bad so you would think they would pay a bit more attention to how their employees act and treat the customers. I'm always happy and relieved when I get someone who is nice, helpful and pleasant though lol. I wish they would get rid of the Ulta we have here and put a big Sephora in instead. We have one in the city but that's a bit of a trek for me to just go to one store for a few products.

i do however like how ulta has a range from low to high end products where as everything in sephora is crazy expensive.

My ULTA use to be pretty bad till I wrote a pretty nasty customer service letter describing poor management, nasty customer service and horrible product merchandising and sent copies to both the store in error, regional management staff and corporate home office. I guess I wasnt the only one that complained because shortly after receiving my letters serious changes took place in the store. All it takes is few people to complain to make a change.

It is nice they have a range of prices. I guess I'm just not used to being able to get my lower priced things there though, I've always had to go to Target or Walmart because we never had one in the area where I grew up. So I don't take advantage of that as much as others do I guess.

I experience rudeness all the time when I am in there, which I am there probably 2-3 times a week. There are 2 employees that give me outstanding service and that is why I go back even though I did stop going there for a while.
Shelley- I am writing a letter for sure with all of my issues. How did you find out how to send letters to all those places? Just the site itself? There needs to be changes made.

omg yes. in philadephia they opened near this mall called springfield mall. i was so excited because i went to an ulta and sephora for the first time this summer in cali, and i saw an ulta at this mall and i was like omg yah. my hair was in pin curls (was going to a wedding that night) and my mom was returning something in macys so i went in the ulta and when i went to the sections just to see check stuff out the employees were giving me bad looks. and this always happens to me at counters at macy's, it didnt happen in Sephora thou. when i went into Sephora everyone was so nice :)

Both times I have gone to an Ulta, (The nearest to me is like an hour away) I've made $100+ purchases, and still got rude looks from the employees. Granted I spent a long time in the store, because I traveled to go there in particular, so I wasn't going to be in and out in 15 minutes obviously. I was testing some perfumes, and got glared at, like I was some 5 year old child playing with gucci perfume bottles or something. Their Ulta brand makeup station was a complete disaster, along with their nyx section. Most of the jumbo pencils had obviously been opened, and not very carefully, because there was color all over the lids and such. And they're always out of their 'free' gifts.
My mother went recently with my christmas list, and was telling me how the lady was commenting on how I have such expensive taste, and when my mom explained that I have my own beauty blog and page, the lady was like 'well I guess she must to support these kind of products.' WTF is that supposed to even mean?! And even after seeing my list, she insisted that my mom buy me one of their $20 makeup kits with all the shitty eyeshadows and lipglosses and stuff. The ones you buy for your 13 year old.

And i thought i was the only one experiencing rudeness. Not a big fan of ulta AT ALL.

I've experienced more rudeness in Ulta than any Macy's and Sephora combined. So I too am glad that its not just me feeling it. For a while I thought it was just me. Guess not!

Thank you Shelley I appreciate it. I just wrote a letter to customer service and also asked for the DM's email. Any additional info would be much appreciated :)
Girls I also suggest writing a letter, I think if enough people do they will realize how much of a problem their lack of customer service is.

My local ULTA NEVER acknowledges me in their store. I can standing there pacing and looking dumbfounded and they still will not help. After about the 5th time if experiencing this, I stopped shopping at their store. If it's a drugstore brand, that's where I'll go to get it. If it's a higher end item, I'll go elsewhere to get it. I refuse to beg them to accept my money!

Tonita I am at that point too. The only reasons I go there anymore are for nyx and real techniques but I've found other places to buy them.

While I've never experienced downright rudeness at my Ulta, there is definitely an air of indifference. The thing that turns me off is they always seem to be out of stock on a lot of things. When they have GWP promotions (which isn't frequently & the GWP's are stingy), they've always run out. I also feel that their coupons are just a ploy to get you in the store. There are always so many stipulations to them and they never seem to apply to my purchases.

Omg this sucks, but I have only gone to Ulta a couple of times and everyone was nice and suuuuppper helpfull hmm I am going this week, and I will see lol

I've never really had a problem with them. The employees stick around high end and ask if I need help. Not bad, but not perfect.
Dec 24, 2012
Caitlin M.
I agree with you Tonita, I'm done going in there to beg them to accept my money. They have nothing I can't get somewhere else so I don't know why they give off this end-all-be-all air about them.

Stores do this all the time... On Black Friday there was a riot at our best buy... Ppl lined up days in advance for the $99 32" flat screen tvs and they only had one... I think that's a really terrible thing to do to your loyal customers

Each Ulta store has no control over its stock. They receive shipments and I promise you that employees hate when they are only sent a few promo items just as much as customers do. It is not the employees fault, they have no control over inventory
