Oh my goodness,

Please tell me I'm not the ONLY one that Beautylish ruins everything for. I literally just got a headache from watching a YouTube makeup tutorial. I have to admit that I have learned a TON from BL, and I've only been here a few months. I never knew all the false info I was being fed on YouTube, Pinterest, etc. I'm so thankful that my eyes have been opened! Thank you BL! Even though YouTube is so hard to watch now and I'm always investigating everybody's makeup now lol

Am I the only one in this?

Xoxo,
Lola Symone

Well what are you calling "false"? I feel like just because we prefer different methods and make different mistakes doesn't mean one of us is wrong.

But Alexis you did say you liked the looks. Just because their description isn't accepted as accurate doesn't mean it's a bad look and doesn't mean they're trying to feed you "lies"

I know right girls!! And 😂😂😂😭😭😭 Mairead.

@Sapphire, I mean bad technique like...
-I just stopped watching a video because a girl powdered her liquid foundation then proceed to put on a CREAM undereye concealer on. Everyone knows that it's going to crease up like crazy! Powders don't go before creams no kind of way.

I read an article here saying that order doesn't always matter.

Very true, Alexis. Every guru loves the word "smokey" 🙈🙈🙊

Powders and creams, that's not so though.

That girl decided it worked for her. Watching a video doesn't mean you need to copy every single step.

Okay Sapphire.

@Sapphire that's nice that you have your own opinions, but there is absolutely no need to quarrel with Symone over this. She is entitled to her opinions the same as you.

I think that all girls have there own way of doing there makeup that makes them feel beautiful! Different techniques shouldn't be a discussion, there is not only 1 way of doing makeup, there are most likely thousands of ways! We're not all equally talented, but if a certain girl likes doing her makeup look one certain way and she feels beautiful then be it! Thats all that matters, makeup is to enhance our beauty not discuss over how we're doing it right or wrong. That is just my opinion :) please no negative feed back!

I'm not quarreling I'm offering my half. Just because my opinions differ doesn't mean I'm the bad guy. There isn't one.

@Faith, thank you. I appreciate you standing up for me. Like you said, Sapphire is entitled to her own opinion. So I'm just going to let her voice it. She's not hurting anybody.

Anytime :)

Well if it's misleading I guess girls shouldn't depend on youtube tutorials to learn how to do smokey eyes. There are many many makeup artists around the world and I guarantee that some of there techniques differ than others's techniques on how to do a smokey eye.

I agree. I'd probably never know what a smokey eye really was if I didn't come here lol. I trust beautylish.

You seem super concerned with the smokey eye. Would you like to set it straight for us? I genuinely would like to know the differences.

When I see beauty gurus "contour" with bronzer I laugh my head off 😅😅

May 12, 2014

Sapphire K.

Ramsha, I'm really fair, so I use a somewhat matte bronzer for contour because other things can look muddy. I think it depends on the person. At the end of the day, did it look that bad?

I feel like you're just trying to argue with everything said. if you don't agree with the thread, say you don't agree & leave it at that. there's no need to keep going back & forth :)

Uh oh! Smokey eye fight!

It's not that seriously. Everyone has the right to voice their own opinion. This is a discussion NOT A DEBATE. We are here to share our experiences. We don't have to have the same viewpoint. But no one should feel the need to knock down another's opinion. NO ONE should feel like their opinion is going to get attacked. We should be able to freely share. Let's agree to disagree.

I'm really not picking fights here, I'm just trying to express another way of looking at things.

While I agree that Beautylish is a great place to learn about Makeup & Other Beauty related things, we all have to remember to take this information with a grain of salt.

A lot of these YouTube videos and Pictorials are other women just like each and every one of us. They do not know the proper terms and techniques for make up. Have they the resources, I am almost 100% positive that they would properly label a gradient eye a gradient eye.
They are good at playing with make up, on themselves. So there is a chance it may not work for any of us.

The web does not guarantee the reliability of the data. There is a vast amount of unverified, and often times unverifiable and frequently false information that is biased.
This is why conducting the proper research is always important.

Now; to settle things 'straight.'
If you like to contour with bronzer, by all means go ahead and do it!
The point of makeup is to enjoy it for yourself, not for others.

Like wise, if you know that contouring with bronzer is the incorrect technique to do so then it would be polite to advise anyone else who asked how to contour.
( e.g. I like to contour with bronzer but that is technically not the correct way to do it. But it's just what I like. )

I can also understand why technique is very important. If I paid a Make Up Artist to do a smokey eye, and I leave with a cut crease or a gradient I will be very disappointed.

Beautylish has taught us a lot about make-up, but we have to keep in an open mind.
I enjoy watching these Beauty gurus to see what colors they used. Yes, it may bother me a little bit that they may be calling a gradient a smokey eye but you have to understand that they do not know this information, and it's entertainment at the end of the day.
