You could try a liquid foundation to avoid looking dry. You could also add an illuminator. The way to make it look like you aren't wearing too much, is to find a color that is as close to your skin tone as possible and blend.

If no liquid foundation you use is working then you should try out powder.

Simmie, what method are you using to apply the foundation? From Tue description of your results, it sound like you could be using too much product.

Personally, I use foundation to help even-out my skin tone and cover minor imperfections. Usually, I start by first cleansing, toning, and applying a good quality moisturizer to my face. I let the moisturizer absorb into my skin for at least five whole minutes. Then, I pour out a small amount of foundation - the size of a dime is all it takes for me - and apply it to my face with a blending sponge. I work from the center of my face (nose, center of forehead, center of chin) and blend outward, only applying more foundation to an area if I need to. Often times, I will then go back with a second clean, slightly damp blending sponge and use it to blend around my nose and from my jawline down onto my neck - all areas that will really look weird if you don't blend your foundation well! After that, I dust a little setting powder over my t-zone, because I tend to get oily there, and then continue on with the rest of my makeup application.

Hope that helps!

Glad to help! I would also recommend that you go to YouTube and search for foundation routine vids. There are a lot of great makeup artists out there that show exactly how to do this, step by step. In my opinion, it's always a little easier to do something after you've watched someone else do it at least once.

I have moderately dry skin. I use Makeup For Ever HD foundations. I mainly use foundation to give my face an even tone. I don't have any acne to coverup but wearing foundation makes any eye makeup or lips pop more and work together more seamlessly. Also, if you contour at all, having a good base is like having a blank canvas to work on. For application, if you have dry skin, always always moisturize before applying. I use Alba Acnedote Lotion and MAC Prep and Prime Skin Bade Visage cream as a primer. I apply my foundation with a brush and use a translucent powder to set my liquid foundation. If I have particularly bad sun damage or my skin is extra dry, I use MAC Fix + on top of everything and pat my face down with my fingers. It just gives a nice airbrush look if you finish with the Fix+ or a product like it. Hope this helps!
