So I had red hair before and then dyed it black.
ofcourse now I want to go back to red for spring. I know I'm probably going to have to bleach it out, but what type of bleach do you recommend?
thanks ladies!

Well honestly I think you should let the black grow out! I do not recommend bleach at all, considering you have black hair it will most likely turn orange, then you want to go back red so you'll probably have to dye it twice because with bleached hair the colour doesn't always stick the first time!
My sister did the same thing, but she wanted to go back brown.. Her hair was very long and it had all fallen out up to her shoulders, she even got it professionally done! It damaged her hair to the max, it's been two years and it just now started to grow again.
Maybe it won't turn out that bad but just be cautious!

If you're doing it yourself you could use L'Or?al HiColor highlights in whatever shade you're aiming for with a 40 developer. you'll probably have to go over your hair twice to get the desired color but it's not nearly as damaging as bleach. Also if you have roots be sure to use a protien filler on them so you don't end up with horrible hot roots. everything I've mentioned can be purchased at sallys beauty supply.

Are you going to do it yourself? I've always bleached my hair myself and it's never cause mass breakage or hair loss/shortage but it can if the person that does it does it wrong.
How many times have you dyed it black since the red?
I'd use a 30vol developer and bleach powder, some people are going to say use 40vol, don't! It will just fry your hair. After that it'll probably be an orange colour and blonde in bits, leave it for at least a week before you go in to fix up the darker bits, I would use a 20vol for that to ensure it won't damage your hair more than you need to, after that your hair should be an even yellow/light orange colour, from there you can go red again because your hair doesn't have to be blonde to go red.

Oh and I'm not a professional so still be careful! I have however done this multiple times on friends of mine without a problem

Oh jeez and I mean use the loreal HiColor highlights for dark hair only as an overall color, it comes in a red color! I didn't mean using a blonde one as bleach substitute.

Also with bleach always keep a careful eye on it whilst it's on, never leave it on for longer than an hour, I always keep mine in for 45 mins to be sure.

I'd use a hair stripper rather than just bleach as I find the hair stripper will take out the synthetic pigment that just stains the hair while bleach is more harsh since it's taking out natural pigment that makes up the hair
