You will always get split ends. there's nothing you can do to 100% stop them from coming back, unfortunately :c
however, getting regular trims definitely helps! also try using heat tools as little as possible. those cause split ends like CRAZY! there's a million other things you can do to prevent breakage & split ends, but in my opinion, that's #1 :p
as for products, I love Redken's Anti-Snap leave-in treatment & Bedhead's Split End Repair leave-in conditioner. both have definitely helped lessen the amount of split ends I get.
hope I could help! xx

It might also have to do with the angle of the cut when getting your hair trimmed. I have crazy ass thick hair, and it tends to split a lot. My hair dresser (back on my home country) cuts it in a 90 degrees angle to avoid that. It's tricky not to get big bold chunks. he's an artist. I hardly ever get split ends now. He taught me how to trim it myself to avoid going to someone who'll cut it diagonal and mess up my process.

There are people out there who don't have split ends because they take care of their hair - and we didn't have split ends when we were children so those are things to keep in mind when it comes to caring for your hair - the only way to get rid of existing split ends is to cut them off - always get at least 2 inches cut every time you go - and ask for a deep conditioning treatment after you cut or color your hair - now there are many things that can damage your hair between cuts mainly heat styling but some products can also be damaging like an over drying shampoo or styling products - so I use a moisturizing shampoo n conditioner by Paul Mitchell n it has really changed my hair to where I don't see split ends for up to 6 months between hair cuts - I only use heat products about 1-2 times a week and when I do I always use heat protectant spray before heat and a sealing serum afterwards (I like super skinny by PM) so these have helped my hair tremendously - I had awful hair after a bleaching job and basically had to cut out all the bleach before my hair could recover but after using the PM products and getting regular trims once a month for about 6 months then my hair is finally healthy to where now when I get it cut my hair dressers always compliment me on how healthy my hair is and they can't see any heat damage and they think I've never straightened my hair before! So hope that helps!
