Try selsun blue or neutrogena T-gel.

I use a green tea rinse (2 teabags in 1 cup boiled water-steep overnight-pour in squeeze bottle.) Wash using your favorite shampoo..rinse with cool water..apply tea rinse generously... let sit an hour or so with a towel loosely on your head...rinse out and condition as normal. I alternate that with Sally's Generic Tea Tree Oil Scalp Treatment. Paul Mitchell has one as well. Kill bacteria while preventing flaking and relieves itching.

You could try an apple cider vinegar rinse. You'll have to look up a recipe bc you dilute it with water. I just guesstimate, but it's suppose to help with dry scalp.

The reason head and shoulders made it worse is because it's for dandruff which is different than dry scalp but a lot of people don't realize that. Dandruff is due to a fungus I believe and usually results in yellowish flakes while dry scalp is essentially dry flaking skin. So the medication in head and shoulders will irritate an already dry scalp and make it worse. If you want an actual shampoo and not a natural remedy they do make shampoos for dry scalp like the neutrogena tgel some girls have mentioned. It does work but is sort of expensive.

Selsun blue is really minty and refreshing.

That's because selsun blue has menthol in it.

Green Tea and Tree Tree Oil both kill fungus so it's a win for irritated scalps. I have Psoriasis and am flake free without scalp meds. The medication was destroying my hair..ugh. Those medicated shampoos are also tough on hair and some contain tar. :(

Yeah I think the T-gel contains coal tar as the active ingredient - and Roz I have psoriasis too! And the T-gel worked for me but honestly just moving to a place with more humidity has changed my skin dramatically as well.

Clear is a great drugstore brand for scalp care. It comes in a lavender bottle. I've been using it for the last year or so (?) and I LOVE it. No more pricey shampoo & conditioner for me.

Try Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo/conditioner. I use the lavender mint moisturizing formula, and it works pretty well. Also pick up a tube of his tea tree hair/scalp treatment in conjunction with the shampoo and conditioner, that'll help with your dry scalp.

Palmers coconut oil shampoo and conditioner is great for dry scalp and cleanses really well.
