Wayne Goss made a video on this. If you're using an HD powder that is silica based then the camera flash reflects off of that mineral thus making it look like you have a white cast in your face.

No I don't use an HD powder.

Well it's a mineral powder. I don't use a primer though, do you think it'll make a difference if I use one?

I'm thinking of that one picture if Nicole Kidman, which I think in her MUA defense is from when HD makeup was newer, with the VERY white patches under her eyes. It looks like the MUA was using the trick of loading the undereye area with powder to catch eyeshadow fallout, not knowing the effect it would have.
