I paint my nails a lot and its all chips in 1 or 2 days! I chips in one piece too! Could you guys recommend good basecoats and topcoats? And also recommend some good long lasting nail polishes? thanks!

I personally wouldn't go with gel nails. They damage your nails (depending on what kind) and removing it takes a long time.
I suggest nail polishes such as OPI, China Glaze, Essie and such. They last long and have a great shine. For base coat, I recommend the Essie First Base since it makes the polish stick to the base coat which prevents chipping.
Another thing is to apply several thin layers of polish instead of one thick layer. This way it dries faster and prevents chipping off in one piece.
Hope I helped! :)

I'd definitely go with Shellac or that type of gel nail polish, which is different than gel nails. It's amazing. I've been doing it every 2-3 weeks for a few years and will NEVER go back to a regular mani or any type of acrylic.

Gel nails can be impractical (they're not as good for you as normal polish, they're more expensive, you may have to go to a salon and it's harder to remove, as Katherine said)
I like Essie good to go top coat and I've found the OPI top coat is not that good. Apply an extra coat of top coat everyday to prevent it from chipping so much

I agree with gel. I removal takes time but it dries immediately and last two weeks. I've been loving gel polish.

I personally don't think that brand name = better. It's all about a good base and top coat and keeping your cuticles moisturized. My two fave base coats are Revlon Colorstay and CND Toughen Up. Poshe is my go-to top coat.
