As long as you wash your makeup off at the end of the day, you should be fine. Some products can clog pores but as long as you wash it all off well, it shouldn't. Unless it breaks you out due to reaction, which then it can't be prevented. Some skin reacts to products like foundation in big breakouts in just a couple hours. You just have to find the one that's right for you. And make sure you never go to sleep with makeup on.

For this reason exactly, I use a korean bb cream that actually has skincare benefits while youre wearing it. For some extra coverage, I add cover fx powder on top, which is "5 free" and will not cause breakouts.

Moisturizing before applying is important. It gives your pores something to absorb that won't leave spots or blackheads. Properly moisturized skin won't give you spots or clogged pores no matter what you put on. Moisturize at least twice a day even if you're not going to wear makeup. A moisturizer with salicylic acid, provided you're not allergic or have extreme reactions to salicylic acid, are best before applying makeup. To be safe, it's good to moisturize and then apply a primer before apply concealer or foundation. This is your protective layer between your skin and potentially damaging product. For those who worry about moisturizing causing oily skin, many people have oily skin because they don't moisturize. The skin attempts to compensate for the dryness of your skin and will over compensate causing an oily complexion. Got all this information from my cosmetic enthusiast of a dermatologist. Just some food for thought.

Note: You may be allergic to something in a foundation that is causing you clogged pores, redness, or breakouts. Found out I was allergic to a specific ingredient in the MAC foundations which was causing dryness, which caused oil overcompensation, which then resulted in oily breakouts. If something is causing a breakout even if you moisturize and use a primer, you may be allergic to the product you're using.

Some products can clog pores, it's important to remove all traces of make up at night to clean your make up brushes and sponges on a regular basis.

Stephanie, most of that is correct but I just have to point out that just because you put moisturizer on does not mean your skin won't absorb your makeup. It'll absorb the moisturizer first, but it does not create a well enough barrier to not cause clogged pores no matter what. If that was the case all we'd have to do is moisturize and we'd never get any spots lol. And if you react to a new moisturizer, then it can give you spots and breakouts. Skin is very personalized. What works for one likely will not work for another, even if they have the same skin types. Makeup is also very personalized. It takes a lot of trial and error before finding what works for you. It took me a long time to find the perfect skin routine (for my skin) and at least 2 years to find a foundation that didn't break me out.

Great feedback and all good things to keep in mind!
