Lol I don't think hair chalk discriminates. I use pastels though they tend to have more color pay off and it last longer.

I think they always work better on hair that has been bleached or dyed in the past you know, gives it something to stick to as asian hair tends to be quite smooth and shiny, i suppose it depends on the brand :/

Just wet your hair before you put the chalk on, and then apply some heat and that should seal in the colour :)

Donna- Its just regular chalk, not special hair chalk or anything. The kind you'd draw on a sidewalk with. (:

I don't have Asian hair, and neither does my sister, but her hair is quite dark and thick and it worked on her hair. (: I have a tutorial on hair chalking on my blog if you wanna check it out... http://imagineastylishworld.wordpress.com/2012/04/08/simple-and-no-mess-hair-color/
The pic of my sister isn't on this post, but it works, trust me! Good luck :)

Those of you saying it doesn't work, just wondering, did you wet the chalk and dampen the hair before doing it?
Just a curiosity :) because some tutorials don't say to do that but it doesn't work very well if you don't
