So I'm pretty young, 17 to be exact but I just found the burning desire to do other people's makeup. I never actually did anyones makeup because I thought I couldn't do it, but now I'm inspired. so far I've done 5 peoples makeup and my 6th will come up soon but I want to make this a serious thing. do you guys know how I could start? and if you any tips on makeup kits or anything really, let me know please :)

Read up on techniques & such. I don't know all the good books, but I do know Making Faces is a good one. just practice practice practice. post pictures of your work on social media sites. there are tips to creating a kit in the editorial section. good luck!

Check the laws in your state also.. You may need a license. Study up on sanitary procedures! Definitely take pictures as you do makeup and post on Facebook, Instagram.. Whatever other social networks you have! Good luck!

Thanks for the advice Kat and Maegan :)

Hi zynia! You're definitely on the right track. I would just say to watch videos on real makeup artists like Billy b, Robert jones, and I can't think of that liberty guy...Wayne goss, and many more actual mua. I say that because they know what they are talking about and know how to just about everything. Another thing I suggest you do is buy books and invest your time into reading and researching anything and everything you can. Start off with skin care and the basics of makeup and work your way up to makeup styles and different techniques. There are a lot of thing I'm still doing because you can never stop learning. I'm not a mua yet. Plus your seventeen so it's perfect. Just keep practicing and you'll get it. As far as a kit goes, you need a good range of foundation for different skin types and shades. Powders, shadows, primers, anything you basically wear but enough to have in your kit for clients. You can buy yourself a brush set from coastal scents which are good enough to get the job done. Also there's morphe brushes, crown royal (I think), bdellium, royal and langnickel, and other you can purchase from that will affordable.

Watch youtube makeup tutorials, talk to people at your local stores; Mac, Ulta, even makeup counters @ Macy's or Dillard's. knowing information from already established makeup artists really helps. :) good luck and remember; do what you love, and love what you do.

I highly recommend saving up for the bdellium toolsets! They're honestly so affordable for the quality. I really like ecotools, too!

Jackie is excellent when explaining the real world of makeup artistry and if you want a real future in it you need to put your all into it don't depend on just being a social media makeup applicator push yourself further into the actual career and don't give up no matter how hard it gets.Best of luck Zynia  :-)
