Every summer the tan on my stomach and back end up splotchy. I do not use a self tanner and was wondering how to prevent this.

You could try using a tan accelerator, such as Elemis Tan Accelerator. You apply it like a body moisturiser for 2 weeks before you are tanning, and it makes the natural melanin in your skin be more effective. It also distributes the melanin more evenly for a even tan.

Make sure you exfoliate well first so there aren't any dry patches

What do you mean splotchy? are there parts of your skin that aren't tanning? do you have areas that stay you regular skin color and the rest turns darker when you tan?if so it may be Tinea Versacolor which is not harmful its just a fungus or overproduction of yeast that lives on the skin and blocks the sun from tanning those areas

I have certain spots that get darker than others and certain spots that just aren't affected by the sun at all so maybe some parts just don't tan as well as others. Idk just my take on it.

I have that same problem. It could be a vitamin deficiency. Jut check with a professional before taking my advice :) it can be a sign of not enough zinc which you can get through eating a lot of natural foods like mini sweet peppers and such. You can also get a vitamin supplement with calcium magnesium and zinc which all work together like that... I always like trying the natural stuff before putting more chemicals in/on my body :) again I'm not a doctor Lol but I am studying natural medicine

I think you're right Ashley! I know I'm anemic and lacking a few other things so it's probably zinc.

You can try the vitamin supplement I mentioned :) just make sure it's natural :) you might have to order it from amazon... You can try it for a little while and see if any thing changes. It's just vitamins so it won't hurt. Unless you take fifty in a day. That would be bad.

I'd check with your doctor. it could be the fungus that Traci mentioned. my boyfriend had a splotchy tan on his body too & when he went to the doctor he found out it was the fungus.

Could be vitiligo, I have that so I know about it well.
