I do fashion sketches and it is hard to figure out. Things I find helpful are:
-pick a direction your light is coming from and only highlight things closes to it and shade things farther away.
- try not to do hard outlines (just makes it 2d again) but use a darker shade of that color. Or use the black/brown then apply the color of the worm over it and blend it together
-use a smudger to blend out harsh lines
