With the lighting, contour isn't visible. That doesn't mean you did not do it correctly, but instead that the camera was unable to accurately capture your work.

Thank you rozberry j I used a really dark foundation to contour aswell I'm not sure if the base foundation is a little dark or if I need to apply more of the contour foundation

Well you're not really supposed to be able to notice someone has done contouring. It's supposed to be a seamless finish, so since we don't really know what you normally look like, it's hard to tell.
But for feeling like you have too much makeup on: try to stick to just liquid or just powder for your contouring and highlighting products.

From those 2 pics I can definitely see some definition in the cheekbone area!
