@Amber, I mean I would still try to go darker than that. or maybe pack some black shadow on top to add more darkness.
I don't know what a faux smokey eye looks like, but I know smokey eyes are very dark.

@kyra I made this look to make to a Smokey I wearable during the day or for someone who is new to makeup but doesn't want to fool around with multiple shadows but thanks anyway.

I think the effect is cool, but as it doesn't cover the entire lid and mostly just the lash line I think it's more smokey eyeliner (or that's what it looks like to me) opposed to a smokey eye.
But I also think I can see how on the other eye you went up a bit higher like you said you did, as it looks like on that eye you took it on the lid and crease a bit more (unless that eye is meant to be an entirely different look, if so then just ignore this part).
