It's personal preference <3 you could do just the apples, you could extend it up toward your temples (watch how Shaaanxo applies her blush, it looks beautiful), some people like to dust it across their forehead and nose. If it's a deeper shade, some people like to use it a bit lower on the face, almost in the area you'd contour. Really whatever you like :)

I have an oval face and although I do pay attention ti "guidelines," I still experiment to create the look I'm looking for. So since I never use one color for anything (I always use 2 shades of lipstick & 2 shades of blush to create gradiation & dimension). So I use a combination of the OBLONG application with a sheer, muted tone then I top it off with a brighter color using the HEART application. I realized that when I got a little sun, the area below my eyes would get pink (besides my nose & cheekbones). So that's the look I wanted to create. So what I'm saying is, do pay attention to guidelines, but trust your own eye when creating your look.
