Mine did the same thing, I'm unsure why, and I am a stylist. I've been growing my hair out and it's curly again. I assumed it was because the hair is too short for your natural pattern of curl. You said big loose curls, maybe it's too short. That's what I was thinking when I did t.

I thought it,s only me. My hair is absolutely straight when is short and wavy when long. I think your hair had a certain level where it starts curling, like Briana,ve said it,s too short for natural pattern of curl:-)

The sane thing happened to me after straightening it every day for years! I do the curly girl method now and my curls are back, bigger and better!

It can be many reasons why. 1. demaged, dead etc.hair can curl because they arnt healthy anymore. so when you cut it, youre hair falls straight because the demaged hair is gone. 2. it can be the weight, when I cut my hair, it has to get used to the new weight. For me it always go less curly when I cut it, but after a week ore two its back to normale. 3. if you have lose waves and cut it short, it might have problems getting into waves because its just to short.
and there even more reasons. it might be youre hair and head has to get used to the new weight, thats normale. I have wavey hair/curly big hair. I cut it really short once. from bellybutton lenght, to shoulder lenght. first I was more straight, but after a week ore so it became wayy more curly because there was less weight. when I grew it long, it got less curly because there was more weight.
Maybe this is a tip you can try. When you have showered, scrunch youre hair with a towel for quite a while. Water is quite heavy, and because of that, it might that youre hair drys straight because the water makes the hair to heavy :)

Indeed, its really short. I really really love that picture tho, lovely haircut. I think this cut is even better without curls :)
