Feb 11, 2014

Bobbi Brown corrector followed by her concealer. A little goes a long way when using both.

I'm going to try this too! I wear very little makeup so it's hard to cover my dark circles.

Pixie Correcting Concealer in Brightening Peach, then Hard Candy Glamoflauge. Glamiflauge is heavy so a little goes a long way. Use triangle method applying concealer from inner eye across under eye, down side of nose and up towards end of eye with concealer brush. Use a flullier brush to buff out. I use my 217.

LOL..

I've heard good things about hard candy glamoflauge but they don't make my shade do I haven't tried it.
and good things about la colors pro concealer but I haven't used it much yet. I uses it once as a test and I feel like I prob should have used a corrective. or layered more. it was a test so I'll keep working with it

Seriously Naomi you crack my ass up!! Wait...why doesn't that sound right?? Lol anyway I think my problem is more about applying and setting when it comes to concealer. I Have dark circles AND some serious wrinkles under the eyes and I've tried a million different application techniques and a million different concealers and setting products (powder and spray) and I still can't get it to look right!!

Haha. glad I can add a laugh. life is too hard to b walking around frowning have to keep it light and make jokes whenever possible!..

as far as the concealer thing, what's your skin type Stephanie?. I notice sometimes you really don't need to necessarily set. esp I kno some girls set their concealer, then set their makeup after. that works good if you're oily but if you're dry you have to do things differently.

Stephanie M.

Naomi I'm dry. I try setting it with a spray because I'm trying to avoid it from moving out of my wrinkles. Any suggestions.

Feb 11, 2014

Naomi S.

Yes. my suggestion is primer to avoid settling and try without a setting spray.. blend it out with your foundation. add a lil more concealer on top of the foundation as you see fit.
so prime, conceal, foundation, and conceal again. don't add setting spray and see how that goes.
also, a good hydrating mask (not oily. but hydrating) to give your skin some flexibility..

also try prime. color corrector, conceal, foundation, (and if you stll see more to touch up) conceal. see how that goes let me kno.. :)

Oh Naomi I love you Lol! One Queston...what kind of primer can I use under my eyes that won't be too drying?? I have the Laura Geller face spackle that I do put under my eyes as well but doesn't seem to make a difference. Also, I've learned from Robert Jones that you should "not go past the line of demarcation when applying concealer/corrector to cover dark circles". Do you follow this rule as well?

Hey Stephanie, sorry for the delay, I have exams around this time.. I hope you check back here.
as far as primers to use, I'm so not technical. I usually can rub product btwn my fingers to tell what it will do to the skin but silicone based primer us supp to b better for dry skin. also, make sure your skincare is up to the bar. you really need your skin to be moisturizer and healthy for the foundation and concealer to lay and build well. hydrating mask have been my best friend. when I notice issues with my foundation (settling in creases, becoming patchy, etc.etc) most of us say, oh crap, let me find a new foundation, this one isn't the one anymore. but I started checking my skincare and it makes a world of different.. so a good moisturizer and eye cream are also key..
another thing I wanted to share with you that I've noticed is, first, we are our own worst critics right?. with that said. we think we look a wretched mess and go for the most coverage possible and use as much product as needed when in all actually we need to take a step back.
my eyes were horrid to me. I was using Mary Kay concealer. its always worked pretty well. but it was settling I'm creases etc. I actually had to take a step back and started using maybelline fitME concealer which is thinner. but actually works better because with the heavy coverage it becomes cakey and actually makes lines more pronounced. with something more fluid it bends to your face.. you don't want to look like plaster, there's nothing Wrong with having a few lines, it makes our faces real and not porcelain. now if you have heavy bags you want to cover that wouldbt work as well (stepping back to less coverage) but in your profile pics I don't see bags, so if you have them ure already doing a good job of covering them. :)
I only see a tad a darkness showing thru, which honestly for day to day doesn't look bad. also could b a shadow more than anything.

as far as blending past the dermarcation point , like I said, I'm not very technical, (something I'm actually working. actually reading one if Robert Jones books now. finished Bobbie Brown. I always read a lot but just didn't become technical as far as terminology. everything is so much trial and error). but what I did find in my lil 5min google search on my phone is that the dermarcation point is is like your skin area, where it would show mismatch btwn your face and neck and you should blend down more. but that's not what you're referring to right?

Feb 12, 2014

Naomi S.

*chin area not skin.

Feb 12, 2014

Stephanie M.

No I was referring to the dark circles.

Look up Robert Jones Beauty Academy on YouTube. There's a video about concealing dark circles where he explains the whole line of demarcation thing.

Feb 12, 2014

Naomi S.

Yeah, the basic definition.states its like a boarder to something (could be anything) but when I put in makeup several mua referred to it as the chin area that line that you'll have when you don't blend your foundation all the way down. I understood you were referring to dark circles so their definition definitely not applicable to you..
anyway, I'll get around to checking it out, thanks.. I know he has an online academy as well , looks cool and very affordable. ill prob sign up at some point just because ;-)..but right now I'm wrapped up in business law, work, and my kid, she's busy and popular and still in diapers. LOL.. :)

Awwwww I didn't know you have a daughter too!! How old?? Mine's two. Also have a 10 year old boy. Also, I've been wanting to do his online academy too...he's one of my favorites but because I have two kids I feel guilty spending money on myself and have been hesitant because I just wanna make sure that academy will be worth it in the long run.

Feb 13, 2014

Naomi S.

My girl is two as well :)

yes, I'll research it more before I drop my money but it seems really inexpensive. I went to cali and visited mua schools when I decided to start in freelance makeup 10yrs ago but decided against it. so his online school vs uprooting and spendn a bunch of money seems like a good idea. plus there are always seminars and such. I don't regret passing on pro makeup school but I would like to become more technical.
and I definitely feel you on the guilt when you have children. I definitely spent more on her than myself. I really just started buying myself makeup since I been I'm here. outside of maternity clothes I have been neglecting myself since I found out this kid was on the way. lol
