The hype behind BB creams?

It could be because I like really full coverage foundations or because I bought a really crappy one before, but will someone who loves them please explain to me why? I don't understand why people don't just mix a foundation with a moisturiser and save some money?

BB creams have more than just a moisturizer in them. I believe they also have SPF, anti-aging stuff, & few other skin benefits.
also, you can't always just mix a moisturizer & foundation. I read on here why, but I can't honestly remember.. I just rolled outta bed, lol.
basically, people like them because it's like a foundation, but it's lightweight & comes with a lot of goodies for your skin. I personally don't understand the craze either, maybe because I've never tried one, but that's always been my theory.

I know it's something like if you have a water based foundation and an oil based moisturiser they won't work together and you have to buy both made of the same base (you get what I mean).

I honestly don't get it either. Asian BB creams are supposed to be much better than the American ones, which seem (at least to me) to be repackaged tinted moisturizers. On the other hand, I can't wait until BB creams crawl their way down the alphabet and reach p. I can imagine it now… "Oh Martha, I LOVE my PP cream!" "Roberto, you simply must rub this PP cream on your face, it feels divine!" Hahaha oh man.

Thank you Lauren thats exactly what I think of them too! If they really did everything they claim to do they would be 100 euro not under 20! haha only a matter of time

If you look at the ingredient list Asian BB creams tend to have more high tech and potent ingredients. And the formulations are made and marketed for Asian beauty ideals: bright, white, dewy skin. That said, I love the feel and convenience and finish of my BB cream which is a Korean brand. The main challenge is finding the right coverage and color match since they have a very limited range of shades.

I don't get it either. The ones in America are not even real BB creams. 90% of the ones I come across don't even have SPF in them which to me is an essential ingredient to have in that type of product. Half of them don't even appear to have moisturizer in them either or treat any kind of skin issue like acne. I honestly think they are a load of crap. They're another way to get people to spend money on stuff they don't need and another way to keep shoving this "natural" and "no makeup makeup" way of beauty down people's throats. That may sound harsh but that's all I can see in this situation lol. I mean, its fine if you use BB cream and have one that works for you but I'm not buying it personally. If the companies can't even deliver a somewhat true version of what a BB cream is actually supposed to be then I don't feel the need to spend money on it. But I also can't wait to see how far down the alphabet they go lol. I hope they stop soon because I think its a total gimmick and just another way to cash in, but good lord if they get anywhere close to Z I won't know whether to laugh or scream haha

I like it because it is light and natural looking.

I don't really get it either lol. I totally understand that if you want a light coverage or tinted moisturizer then you would get a bb cream. I don't get the whole "hype" about it. It's just the new thing and will probably become a fad soon enough. Now there's bb, cc, dd creams, soon enough I'm sure they will make it all the way down the alphabet to zz creams lmao :p Plus American bb creams do nothing more than offer a tinted moisturizer. Real bb creams are from the Asian brands.

I found my skin was ridiculously picky. If I wore regular foundation...I looked like an oil slick. Plain powder worked for a while but then I lacked moisture. I tried a "foundation stick" and, that too, worked for a while but then made my skin very dry and flaky. Instead of smoothing out imperfections they were accentuated. I bought a BB cream for $10 and I'm loving it. It feels like lotion and has helped put the moisture back in my skin while not feeling as heavy as traditional foundation. There's a niche for everything.

P.S. The BB cream I'm using if anyone is curious.

I totally just use them as I do tinted moisturizer. I don't really buy all of the benefits that they claim to have, I find them to be of similar quality as a tinted moisturizer and use it as such. I think I would be upset if I was expecting everything that companies claim that their (American) bb creams can do, but I don't, so I'm not upset. I just hate wearing foundation or anything too heavy on my face so I'm happy with using my tinted moisturizers and bb creams interchangeably.

Back when I was just getting into makeup, I wore BB creams instead of foundation because foundation always felt heavy to me. This was before the American hype came along so all the BB creams I used were from Korea. BB creams have always been a Korean makeup staple product. The American brands don't really do it for me - they tend to be watery with minimal benefits unlike their Korean counterparts. Only downside to Korean/Asian BB creams is their shade range and I'm a tanner Asian :/
