I just heard about using henna as hair dye and did a quick internet search, but I still don't quite know what it does. Has anyone tried it, or know about it and can share with me their knowledge? So far I'm intrigued on doing it myself, but I'd like to hear from someone who knows their stuff, or can link me to a reliable source. Thank you! :)

It doesn't dye your hair completely. Lets say if you want red hair and you have brown hair with highlights. You'll get red hair with brown reddish highlights. So if you want one color you have to have your hair one color.
You also can't dye over it. It'll fry your hair... You have to wait for it to wash out or grow it out. Henna is okay but it's not the best thing in my opinion. I would rather much use an oil based dye and know that if I don't like it I can dye right over it the next day and not wait around.

I use the Lush henna "dye" but it's not really a dye it's more of a tint to your hair, unless you have really light hair, I use one that leaves a reddish tint I'm my dark hair that can be seen mostly in the sun or light,

It tints the hair red but it also strengthens it from the inside. Similar to how a protein treatment would but the results last longer. Also it can loosen your curls if you have curly hair. It has many benefits beside just the color. And you can still dye your hair after IF you use BAQ (body art quality) henna. Don't buy the henna you can find in the regular stores. I have to either buy it at my local indian store or online from a reputable henna company. The ones they mix for hair has metallic salts and other ingredients to alter the color. Those salts are what interact when you use regular hair dye. I usually use Dulhan henna but Jamila is another really good brown.

Henna is one of the worst things you can put in your hair because it is nearly impossible to get out. If you try and bleach it out it will turn funky colors like green or orange.

The loreal glossy colors are just temporary, works great if you just want to fresh up your own hair color.

The thing is, I don't want to dye my hair bc I don't want to risk damaging it. I've never dyed my whole head before, only bleached and dyed the under half in high school, and I remember how brittle the bleached part was (I know bleach is extreme, but still, that's by only experience to go off of). I have brown hair with a lot of colors in it naturally, including red, and I thought maybe the henna would be good for my situation - bc I really like the red hair color, and I obviously I don't get very bored with my hair, lol. My hair is straight and in pretty good condition, and I do regular olive oil treatments on it. Could I still do that with the henna in it? What's the average you've seen it stay in? And should I expect it to stain my towels and stuff?

I wanted to use henna for my hair because it supposedly makes it extremely soft and lush. My mom wouldnt let me because my aunt had done it and ended up with reddish-orange hair and it lasted very long. I wouldn't recommend it.
