Well, you can't go wrong with the Naked Palettes by Urban Decay; Naked Basics, 1, 2, & 3. they're all really wonderful. my personal favorite is #3.
Lorac Pro is super popular too. it's a good combination of matte & shimmer shadows. they're all pretty neutral colours, but still a very versatile palette!
I've heard a lot of talk lately about the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette. I don't know much about it, honestly, but apparently it's got great pigmentation & smells like chocolate c:

Mug sells single eye shadows that you can put in a z palette but if you pay a couple more dollars they also come individually, similar to mac
