It's a shame that the vast majority of Max Factor products can no longer be found in the United States. Some items can still be found on Beauty.com

Pancake makeup was the required makeup we had to use for dance when I was younger, it will always hold a special place in my heart though I can still remember how much I hated the feel of it going on.

That was such a wonderful read first thing in the morning Miss Jacqueline. I still have a Max Factor double ended lipstick and gloss that I keep for nostalgic reasons. I knew he was an early pioneer in makeup but I didn't know he was The early pioneer. Thank you for sharing that knowledge with us.

Jackie...awesome post. :) Is the Max Factor Building still open to the public. I know the last time I was out in Cali I drove right past it but couldn't see if it was still doing tours. I took a tour of it when it first opened up to the public. Its so beautiful inside. Another interesting tidbit is that his great-grandsons,Davis and Dean Factor are also in the makeup biz. They opened a small photography studio called Smashbox Studios in the early '90's which then mushroomed into modeling agency, production company and Smashbox Cosmetics. Its amazing how the offspring still continue adding to their rich history.

And alma thanks for the other part of max thats amazing, what what the kissing one used for?
Jan 29, 2014
Alma M.
They would have people kiss over and over again to see how long the staying power was with their lipstick, how the formula was and if there would be an irritation to the skin. Then they invented this Kissing machine and would put tissue in between the machine and the person kissing as a experiment on how many kisses it would take before the lipstick faded. Then TRUE Color Lipstick was Born. :)

Thank-you Jackie for sharing, and Shelley and Alma for contributing. I'm a dancer and still use Max Factor pancake makeup on a regular basis, but I had no idea about the fascinating history behind it :)
