Okay think three shades: light, medium and dark. The medium color is your midtone :) it's just a fancy word haha.

I first take a black blendable liner and apply it on and next to my lashline, then I smudge it upwards... Next I apply a black shadow all over the lid and into the crease. Then take the gray shadow and overlap it slightly against the black, pull the gray up to a little over the natural crease. Then apply the silver with same technique on the bottom of the browbone below where a highlight would be... The key to a smokey eye is for it to be impeccably blended. By thus I mean that the colors have to be so smooth and gradient looking that you can't tell where one color stops and the next starts. Hannah is right though if you want the best definition you can get, talk to Miss Jackie... Hope this helps... Here is a pic of a smoky eye. Oh and remember a true Smokey eye doesn't have a sharp Li e creating that cat eye look...
