17+? Each to their own but I think its way too dramatic for kids in school.

I don't agree with you Caitriona. I am doing my eyebrows to school everyday and I am in 8th grade and nobody have ever told me that they are too dramatic.

I started doing my brows when I was 14 and I contour on special occasions.

I don't do much with my eyebrows, just pluck them every 3 months or so! (:
And contouring, only when I like to put a little more effort in my makeup, if I have a party or something! (:
Or when I just like it, haha.
I'm 14!

As long as you keep them natural, I just don't see the point in doing all that (the picture attached) to sit in a classroom. Maybe I'm just old fashioned and I'm not judging anyone that does that for school but I think save the full face for going out, and you can't really go out under 18 (except for teen discos)

Oh I was just explaining to Gretel what I meant :) Yours are perfect Autumn. All the make-up is spot on.

I started filling in eyebrows and contouring last year. I was 16. But the only reason I started that age is because that's when I was exposed to it. I wore foundation, false lashes, etc. my freshman year at the age of 14. If I would of known about contouring and brows at that age, I would of started it then.
I think a lot of it has to do with my introduction to social media. I got an iPhone for my 16th birthday, joined Instagram and that's really where I learned so much about makeup. So most of my routines that I do now, I picked up when I was sixteen.
I say if your parents are totally cool with you wearing a lot of makeup, then go for it. People claim it's taking away your youth and all that jazz, but I'd rather have my daughter wear a full face of makeup than booty shorts or a cleavage bearing shirt.

As far as Caitriona's point of going out, I'm only 17 and I go out all the time. I love to go to out to dinners uptown, I live in a big city and we host a lot of fashion and nightlife events. I go to concerts, on dates, lots of stuff. "Going out" isn't just limited to the club!

@ Antonia Wasn't talking about club at all, I was talking about the fact that most under 18 won't have money to do all the things you said, they're relying on the money parents give. :)

You'd be suprised how many high school students have a part time job! Obviously if you're under 16 you can't, but most 17 and 18 year olds I know do. Independence is a big thing nowadays!

I'm in the same boat with Antonia. I'm 17 too. I started doing my brows and getting into makeup (no face makeup until this late 2013 though at 17) at 13. That was dragging black eyeshadow across my brows with a tiny brush 😱 then by 14, I went to "hollywood high" and I was an avid YouTube watcher. I started to do more. Wearing falsies freshman year too! Lol I can totally relate to her. I just started with face makeup at 17. I think 16 is fine as long as you know what you're doing. And I love what Antonia said! Definitely makeup over provocative clothes! 😉

Maybe there is different traditions. I know that in French culture little girls must start lessons about makeup and practice. And know I can definitely see that what was before is different know. I am not sure if it is good but I wouldn't tolerate if after 5 years girls which are 8 would wear makeup.

I didn't know that was French culture but I do think still a good idea. If my daughter wants to wear make up I will definitely pay for her to go learn from. Professional rather than YouTube ( or whatever is going to be teaching it in the future )

I do it now and I'm 12. But I do it very lightly.

I'm 15 and I started doing my monobrow when I was 14 and I started plucking them when I was 15. I started contouring this year because contouring makes me look really old :)

It depends when you feel like doing them. I started plucking mine when I was 14 and then went on waxing them when I was 16.

In my opinion, brows around 13-14 is ok. Contouring much later though, late high school perhaps? I see no need to worry about the shape of your face and features when you're that young. Also your looks are still maturing. Contouring gives an older and more mature look which seems unnecessary. Enjoy looking young now cuz when you're older, you're going to wish you looked younger =).

Honestly, ask your mom or an older girl you're close with! She'll most likely show you how to do the basic things of makeup and maybe even take you to get your first makeup bag. It'll be a nice day and you'll learn everything you need at your age. Hope I helped! I was in 6th grade when I started with the makeup (dollar store eyeshadow and clumpy lashes :p) but now I'm in 11th grade and I get compliments on my makeup everyday. Just do what feels right, it'll take years to perfect.

I started at 14 and it seemed like it was appropriate

Brows when your about 14 but I think contouring is a bit too dramatic for school and everyday maybe a little bit of brozer but contour in the late teens for occaions xx
