Hi Shannon!
I reckon it's fine, but then again i don't have any qualifications in the beauty field, so if you want professional advice your probably best to talk to somebody who has a qualification :) ...
However personally, I wash my brushes with my hair shampoo and have no breakouts. If your shampoo is not anti bacteria I would dip my bristles into a little bit of rubbing alcohol BUT make sure it doesn't soak the entire bristles to the point where the alcohol reaches the funnel, as this will damage the glue. Alternatively you could always have a spray bottle of rubbing alcohol (any alcohol with 70%) and spray the bristles once every now and then and rub the residue on a tissue.
The most important thing of all about cleaning your brushes, is the everyday shampoos for hair will not disinfect your brushes.
I hope my advice has helped you, Shannon, if you have any more queries, you can always message me and I'd be delighted to help you out. have a great night!

Hi Shannon I'm a makeup artist and I get this question a lot. As a few of the girls have said baby shampoo is the best. It's a lot more cleansing and gentle then standard standard shampoo. I advise my clients to deep clean once a week with the baby shampoo if you do it too often the hairs of the brush start to break. I suggest getting a spray brush cleaner for daily use. You can purchase these at any Sephora or Mac. Hope that helps.

I just use dish soap because any other shampoo (unless ones made for brushes) aren't antibacterial. I just use that so I don't have to keep alcohol on hand and I can just wash them with that and be done knowing any bacteria is gone.
