I suggest using out there colors! I have brown eyes too and I constantly use a very dark navy or dark violet instead of black and it makes the whole look a bit more vibrant and brings out the chocolate tones in my eyes! And also a look I've been doing recently is a cut crease with a very light colored lid and dark browns for the crease and I think it makes my eyes look a bit lighter. The pic is the cut crease look.

Reds, greens, purples, and pinks always bring out brown eyes (: I use a lot of red because my eyes have a redish tone to them especially in the light where I usually am.
