Perfect red lips?

I just had my first attempt at doing the classic "perfect red lip". Obviously, since it's my first try, it's not really all that perfect. Does anyone have any tips to improve it? I used a very subtle lip balm, filled it in with liner, then put a layer of lipstick, and then gloss. I used concealer and powder around the edges as well. Any tips? Thanks (:

Put foundation on your lips before you put lipstick on to make the color pop more.

Yep I think foundation makes the colour more vibrant. :)
