I've had my hair done professionally my whole life but some things changed and I'm in a new city alone, I ended up doing my hair myself. It came out exactly how I wanted it, I love it! I used Loreal HiColor in Magenta and it came out a beautiful dark but VIBRANT red. I did it about 3 weeks ago. The red of course has faded to a rust color and I need to refresh it! I'm not ready to dye my roots quite yet, probably not for another 3 weeks or so. But I want to kick the red back up to be as vibrant as before. So this is a two part question, lol.
1.) What can I use to refresh my red in between root touch ups?
2.) If I use Loreal Hicolor (which has bleach in it, right?) on my hair again when it's time to do the roots, and I pull it all the way through to the ends, will it brighten my hair even more? I need my hair to be almost exactly the same color it was when I first did it, no brighter. My job won't let me work if it gets any brighter. :( Thank you! Sorry if this is confusing. :)

Kristen you should really look into the revlon color bomb, they are made for this exact problem! I have used them on every single hair color I have had!
It's a hair mask, so it gives your hair lots of benefits, like keeps it soft and silky :) And it renews your color, giving it more life - especially for red! I used the no 400 when I was a redhead :)

Ohh and it says on the bottle to leave it in for 3 minutes, I did that every time I washed my hair, but like 1 a week I would leave it for 1-2 hours, that really makes your color last so much longer :)

This is what it looks like - and I have to correct myself, it was the no 600 (fire red) I used on my red hair :)

I have that same problem. there are shampoos out there that deposit red back into your hair. I bought one from Sally's that I still have to try.
my question though is do you use right after you have colored your hair in order to keep the color or can it be used at the stage you're at now? my color is similar to what you have now. I believe I used the same dye as you.

I second the color bomb, when my hair was really vibrant red my stylist highly recommended it. I wouldn't mix the colour with shampoo if it has bleach in it because it will probably still lighten your hair even just a bit.

I saw on youtube that there is a shampoo you can buy and its almost like a dye but it puts the color back. You can find it at a drugstore or walmart. its just for red hair and I love the more vibrant red on you. I just dyed mine a similar red and researched how to keep it vibrant,.good luck.

I mix in a little bit of red shampoo in with my normal shampoo and conditioner so every time I wash I deposit a little but of color back into my hair. I wouldn't use the Loreal HiColor in the shampoo if it contains bleach, I'd use a semi permanent dye like Manic Panic and only use the Loreal when you're ready to dye your whole head again :) PS your hair is GORGEOUS

I have been using the red shampoo since I got my color done ( got mine at Sally's.) also Privana makes amazing semi colors. They have a great red, it's a professional color but I believe you can buy it online. Just goggle it.

Oh & you can get Splat at any drugstore or WalMart. They have a website with color ideas & step by step tutorials. I'd say your hair is light enough right now to not use the bleach & just put the dye straight on since your work won't allow a more vibrant red. Then just save the bleach till your roots need done but once you open & mix the bleach you cannot save it!! Only the dye! Good luck with whatever you choose to do & post us pics when your done showing us the results please.

Grace has the right idea. get some manic panic to refresh the ends. There are tons of different reds to chose from. just smoosh that all over your head and leave on for a while...I'll leave it on my hair overnight sometimes. This is just a deposits only dye so it will not harm your hair. you can mix manic panic into your conditioner also. this will keep it from fading so much. Red hair is a pain In the butt to keep up with. I've had red, pink, and everything in between and it always fades. Wash your hair in cold water, use a good quality shampoo and conditioner and if you apply a lot of heat to your hair use a heat protector.

Omg if you use splat you will want to use vasoline where you don't want the dye. That stuff stains big time! Mine is actually dark blue in splat.

You can leave manic panic in overnight? How long does mp usually last before it starts to fade?

It all depends on your hair I guess...my hair has a hard time holding on to color so it'll bleed every time you wash it...mine gads completely after like a week and a half.

Yeah I wash my hair in cold water only three times a week! It still fades lol, there's no way around it for me. I've been wanting to try that Splat but I didn't know what anyone thought of it! As far as Manic Panic, all the reds look so bright!! I couldn't find a dark red. Even the girls on google with Vampire Red seemed like it was extra bright so I didn't know which to use!!
