Marathon Makeup Day

I'm going to be hosting a marathon makeup day at my house within the next month. I'm having a friend set up my website and I need some good "before and afters to post."
I'm going to have a number of girls come over (preferably 7-8) and do their makeup. I'm also having a photographer and hopefully a hairstylist there.
My best friend is telling me to charge, but I don't think I should or it will discourage girls from coming (all high school seniors on a budget) What do you all think? Also, is it inappropriate to ask girls to bring their own foundations, or should I just go pick up a few shades at the drugstore? I haven't purchased foundation for my kit yet, I was going to wait until I get my Pro Student Card. What foundation would be best for photography?
Lastly, are there any other miscellaneous tips you ladies can offer? Thanks!

Thanks for all the tips Rebecca! I really like the idea of having the girls be able to take the foundation with them. My only thing is would I have to color match them before the event? I figured I would be mixing shades. And to both of you, what would be a good amount to charge? I was also thinking of supplying pizza or just snacks (cupcakes or whatever) and drinks. I work for Domino's so I get 1/2 off. As a girl would you prefer pizza or desserts, or should I not do food at all... And if I do, should I factor that into the charge amount?

At least charge them $10

If you are using your best and high end makeup products on them, than I would say yes pay.

I've thought about doing something like that. My idea was that I would do it for free because you need them for your site. and also whoever is there for photography and hair can also use them for practice or to help build a portfolio. Also there's nothing wrong with asking them to bring their own foundation. I did makeup at a fashion show once and all the models were asked to bring their own foundation and mascara.

Don't make them charge and pick up a few shades c.

My only concern about asking them to bring their own foundation is that it isn't a good coverage (I really dislike powder foundations and tinted moisturizers) or doesn't photograph well!

You have GREAT brows. I used to have those little "sprouts" of hair at the front like you do until I got the worst wax of my life! I'm currently try to grow them back!

Oh my god lol don't even mention brows to me, I have the craziest brows ever, literally. They grow super fast! I have to get them done at least every week of how fast they grow. Thank you though! (: and about wax, I use to get them wax all the time Untill I notice That every time I got them wax, my brows where getting thinner, and un shaped. I get them threaded now, and best thing ever! way better than wax.

I would say pick up some foundations but also tell them to bring a foundation-- you can mix them if you have to. :) also, just tell them to have a foundation with no SPF in it and it should photograph pretty well. If you're going to photograph them to use them for a portfolio I'd say maybe not charge them.

A good tip I learned is before you really start building your kit is to buy foundations on the lighter and darker side that way you can mix them together to make shades in between ❤️

Thanks Symone! I've heard of that tip! I feel like it would take me ten years to make the right shade 😂 Tia I never thought to do both! I'll definitely go purchase a few foundations but also ask my ladies to bring their own. I was looking at Jessica's idea of just charging $10, but I see what you mean about not if I'm using their pictures. I also wanted to include eyelashes in my work, so even though I'm using their photos is it not right to charge? They'd be getting a makeover, hairstyling (hopefully), food and a pair of flash lashes. I'm so torn on what to do.

If your just starting out I say free because you need their help to do your portfolio when I was just beginning I had them bring their foundation and mascara (I didn't have disposable mascara wands) that's not necessary if you have wands but don't use the same mascara wand on them if your doing falsies and pizza hairstyling etc.I think a few of $5-$10 would be okay. I always did all that for free for my portfolio its just different persons perspective , Idk how much of a budget your on but I would recommend getting a foundation palette then you could mix it with their foundations and if its too thick add moisturizer without spf and should cover good! you don't need to buy the most expensive ones some inexpensive work just as good! C:

You could also send them their picture when youre done with them. I mean some people have to go specially to get their pictures taken and I guess this and the food/lashes etc.could compensate for the 10 $
